8800GT Ramblings Thread

Anyone notice what's happening now lol.

Last year everyone was on the 7900 series and most people had a SLI/Crossfire system.
The 8800 series came out and the "early adopters" were spouting the propaganda that SLI is a waste of money,You get minimal gains/very buggy still and that we should all ditch our cards and buy a single 8800GTS/X.

Now we have the 8800GT and everyone is saying to ditch your GTX and get a SLI 8800GT system, lol.

Make up your bloody minds, Or is this just marketing at it's best lol.

well you would expect things to change in 12 months, wouldn't you?

Is there a "best" 8800GT out there ? Like a mental overclocked menace ? My GTS just sold for £220, so with the extra cash i though id treat myself to a sooped up 8800GT :D I see EVGA has an SSC edition card, but ive yet to see it on any websites. Also, is the price expected to drop anytime soon for these cards ?

Ocuk have missed a great opportunity here if they'd undercut everyone by even 1p they'd have sold half a warehouse full.

Unlikely coz they missed a trick in getting enough in, if at all, like mine still queued at the warehouse with no update as to when i will get it.

Yeah it's a bit odd... many other stores were well ahead of the game this time round. Wonder what the problem was.

Just ordered an Inno3d one, im fed up of playing on my 7300gt so i ripped open my wallet and ordered it, i have to say i cant wait playing battlefield 2 on 1680x1050. let the good times roll!

also is Rivatuner the best for overclocking? and heard someone say i can overclock the shaders as well as core/mem.

I haven't read through this huge thread so apologies if this has already been asked but would it be a worthwhile thing for me to sell my 8800GTX 768mb and buy two of the 8800GT 512mb? Obviously this is down to Crysis coming out soon and me wanting it to look amazing so is this feasible and what would the performance increase be like?

i would keep the gtx, you will only get about the same performance and their will probably be a marginal differance when AA is turned on with your GTX. keep it and wait for 9800 series.

I would say go for it, but think the prices to be got for 2nd hand GTX's will drop now. Only just managed to sell mine for £260, though I only paid £300 for it to start.

I just wanted money for a quad core. Not bothered about a slight loss in gaming performance. Do more editing than anything these days.

If you can sell it now for decent money, then wait a week or two if you can before getting GT's as the prices should drop.

Mmmm, I'll probably wait and try to win another 8800gtx on the bay a few days before Crysis release. Depending on the price I might just stick to what I have but after seeing everything on Very High (at unplayable framerates :( ) I just WANT the eye candy :D

Probably just try and tweak it as much as possible with the one card before playing properly, anyway - enough derailing from me. Cheers for the advice. :)

2 GT's? They'd kill a GTX at most settings and probably run on the same PSU. They could run out of memory at higher resolution plus antialiasing. If your going to sell do it soon, I just sold a GTX. Put it up for £270 inc postage, only just got £260 for it. GT prices will drop soon enough, I managed to get one for another PC, £150 before the prices rocketed.

Who on earth cares about brand, if you spend too much time worrying about which brand to get you cleary ain't hardcore enough :p.
Its a case of Old Habits Die Hard Tom :)

Back in 2003 when the Radeon 9800 and 9800Pro was tearing up the place it seemed that the Sapphire made card was the one to go for because it used some fairly uber Samsung memory chips that overclocked extremely well, some of the other branded cards were manufactured using Hynix memory chips that were pretty poor at clocking.

I was not aware that modern nvidia graphic cards were all made using the same components hence why I stumbled around for a while trying to sus out which brand of 8800GT would be worth a punt!
