8800GT Ramblings Thread

Is stupid that i'm feeling excited and nervous right now! Ordered the cheaper BFG card asap on Monday, i now know that it should be with me tomorrow.

Why am i excited? Well, i suppose that i don't spoil myself that often and being pretty new to the pc enthusiast scene this is my first "major" upgrade! I'm anticipating an incredible difference from the 7300gs cards that i'm currently running and just hope i'm not disappointed!

Why am i nervous? I've only ever installed a sound card before now and with this gfx card being an expensive piece of kit i'm worried i'll mess the install up through lack of experience, knowledge and not being excactly sure if the rest of my system will be compatible!

Be ready for my cries for help tomorrow chaps!

YAY! Orderd a Inno 8800GT this morning, can't wait to get rid of this 7800GT!! I'm gonna spend the next week waiting by the front door!

Really wanna have a go at overclocking it, would it be worth getting a new cooler like the Arctic cooling Accelero S1?

How do you know that this can fit onto the 8800GT btw?

The 4 screwholes around the core on 8800GT align with those on 7800/7900 & X1800/X1900 so the S1 will work on 8800GT as well.

However if you look closely at the stock cooler there's an area at the rear that is cooled by the stock heatsink whereas the S1 doesn't cover the area.

That's what put me off getting one

*EDIT* This is what I'm talking about

Can anyone confirm that it's ok to leave those chips uncovered by heatsink?

Hi Raikiri,

Thats a monster cooler, first saw that being used on a Radeon X1950Pro and liked it. How do you know that this can fit onto the 8800GT btw?

Check this out. :)

A piece of good news for the enthusiast, the 8800GT comes with similar mounting holes as the the 7900GT/GTX as illustrated below!!! Enthusiast can recycle their Zalman VF700/900 and other similar coolers with their new 8800GT! woohoo!

How are they going to find out that it has been overclocked if for some reason you had to send it back to them?

Tbh, i've no idea! Have pretty much stated previously that i'm a noob with all this, just assumed it would be the case. Either way, i'll just be happy to get it installed without any problems.

Evga allows you to install 3rd party coolers without voiding i think.May want to double check that though.

Just ordered the ASUS one from OCUK. :D:D

That and £600 of other kit for my new Core2Duo build. :)

I know if I had waited, prices would have dropped slightly, but time was right for an upgrade, cashflow was good and the 8800gt arrival was just the icing on the cake :D

I hope the web stock levels were correct. I am already excited and Its not coming while Thursday. Should all look sweet in a P182 ;)

Unlike most of you, I am coming from a P4 2.8, 533 and GF6800 AGP 4x.

I expect I will see a slight improvement in performance yes?. :D:D

Worthwhile to sell the gtx and just get one 8800gt imo as i am sure you would rather sell it now and gain £100 + a gt than sell for £150 in 2 weeks time.

Those games in that chart look rather sli friendly :)

Would 2 8800gts 640 in SLI running @ 650/2000 perform similar to the GT SLI config in the chart?

Aw look at you all excited lol

Yes, you will see a slight performance increase ;) May I suggest buying new underpants.

Apparently the 8800gt isnt meant to cope with high levels of filtering, so i would be wary of those results. however sli results do look promising, i just wouldnt buy 2 8800gt's untill they have been truly stressed under aa/af on something like crysis.
