8800GT Ramblings Thread

My XFX 8800GT will be here today, not sure if I did the right thing selling my GTS, was getting in the low 13,000`s in 3dmark 06 with the cpu at 3.6ghz and gpu at 690. I am a victim of the recent GT buying frenzy :)

Unless you are saving plenty of money, its not worth switching over from a 640mb GTS or GTX really, at stock its about 10% faster than my overclocked 640mb GTS i got rid of in the summer.

how do you people manage to get such high 3dmark's, I can only just hit 10k with my GTX, my cpu is only @ 2.6, but surely 1gig does'nt net me an extra 3k or more ? (compared to your 3.6gig cpu).

I have a few questions regarding the 8800GT, apologies if these have already been answered:

Is it worth buying one of these knowing that it won't have DX10.1 support ?

If so, how long do you think it will be until you need a DX10.1 card ?

DX10.1 games will work with DX10.0 GPU's, you'll hardly notice anything with DX10.1, not worth getting worried about tbh.

Ouch, ugly PCB colour and ugly sticker, why didn't they use the woman instead :p

get it in your machine asap

Its in now :D

Just downloading those 169.04 beta drivers. Unfortunatly I only will be trying CSS Stress Test as I have to go to college at 11, will do some propor benches in XP tonight.

The sticker aint that bad, same as me 8800GTS I last had on it, better than the stock NV Sticker lol.

TBH your GTS is a beast at that overclock so I don't think there will be much improvements moving to GT unless the GT is overclocked to the same level.

What kind of improvement would I expect to see?

Approx +30% looking at the benchmarks I've compiled from various sites.

Basically, the 8800GT is roughly 30% faster than a 320MB 8800GTS, 15% faster than a 640MB 8800GTS and 15% slower than an 8800GTX.

If you can upgrade for not much cash, then it's probably worth doing.

But, as ever with these things, it depends what games you play and at what resolution. If your current card isn't struggling with anything, then you don't NEED to upgrade, but hey, why the heck not if you want to!!!

EDIT: It might be a bit of a lesser percentage boost between your 320MB GTS and the GT if you've got one of the OC or OC2 BFG cards. The 512MB memory on the GT should be handy for future games though.

some people really are desperate, theres no way i would pay £176 for a OcUK GeForce 8800 GT with 1yr warrenty when you can get the EVGA GeForce 8800 GT for exactly the same price with a 10yr warrenty:eek:
