Gona get one of these cards soon, would just like to know pros and cons of each, Especially how each performs in dx9 and 10 as i will be wanting to keep the card i purchase for a while. I game in 1280*1024.

+'s of the pro would be, more memory, being able to clock to XT speeds, so being faster than the 640mb GTS, -'s being, very loud, needing more power than a GTX, giving out a lot more heat, and the Dx10 drivers for them being abysmal, where as Nvidia cards are slightly faster in Dx10 than running in Dx9, the 2900's drop over 30 frames when going from Dx9 to Dx10.

Id suggest a 640mb GTS if your wanting to keep it a while, the 320mb GTS is really juts a few months tide me over card imo due to its low memory, and if you got the 2900, you would have to wait until they sorted out their terrible Dx10 performance, which you don't know when will happen.

I use my 320mb GTS at 1280x1024 and it cuts through everything maxed out fine, but everyone says once the big guns come along (Crysis, UT3 etc...) the memory's not gona be enough due to them needing more for the bigger textures and that that games are going to bring, and those games are due November, so chances are you'll be upgrading it again then, which is what, 2 months away, so to be safe id go for the 640mb.

AGree with loadsa except I would say a 2900xt matches a 640Mb GTS, not beat it.

However, compared to a 320Mb GTS it's a no brainer, get the pro.

Oh and one other con with the 2900 pros, they don't handle AA well at all. Perhaps one day ATI will get this sorted in their drivers.

An overclocked GTS will beat an overclocked 2900

I agree with Loadsa apart from WIC wont run maxed on a 320MB GTS :(
It would do better on the 640MB one

In games where the 8800GTS is not limited by the amount of memory it will be faster but in others it will probably be slower, although i'm not convinced the low performance of the 8800GTS 320mb in some games is due to the lack of memory, I think it's the drivers.

Basically if your concerned about the lack of memory on the 8800GTS 320MB then get the 2900Pro.

Yeah which is why when the big games start appearing from November, the 320mb could be a factor, so id get the 640mb GTS to be on the safe side, plays Dx9/Dx10 games no problems now, where as the 2900 gets crippled in Dx10, or do you want to wait until ATi sort their Dx10 performance out, which no one knows when that will be, so do you want to take a chance on having to play Crysis in Dx9 as they still aint sorted their Dx10 performance by then.

If i were going to upgrade my moniter to a 22inch widescreen at 1680 x 1050 would this tip the scales in favour of the pro due to the extra memory?
