Ok, I've got an 8800GTS 320Mb OC card at the moment and am looking at getting a 8800GTS 640Mb card. Both are BFG but the 640Mb card isn't the OC version. Am I going to be better with the 640Mb card over the 320Mb one even though it's not the OC version?

Thanks

I'm not a massive gamer but I do play COD 4, GRID and Assassins Creed etc.

I have a 22" widescreen monitor so I would be aiming at 1680 x 1050 resolution. Frame rates...Just like it to run smooth.

Thanks

why the 640? as far as i can gather the 512 was the better card, as the 9800gtx is based on this.

I have been offered quite a good deal on the 640Mb card (£50) and I have a friend who wants my 320Mb card for £40 so I thought for a tenner it might be a good option?

£40 for the 320!!! i have sold 2 320 8800gts this week for £59 and £65 on a certain website. ;) thats a bargain for your friend mate.

Well he's a good mate :)

So...general consenus is that the 640Mb will be better even though its not the OC version?

I don't think it's going to make much of a difference, though it's not a bad deal you've got there. Might be better off picking up a 8800GT 512 or just saving the money and going towards something better entirely. My GTS320 struggled at the same res, saved up and got a GTX280 on the cheap, it eats through absolutely everything I throw at it now. I said I wouldn't upgrade until 1GB VRAM was in my price range and there was a good deal.

Any idea what the going rate is for an 8800GT 512?

If I hadn't of been made this offer then I wouldn't have been looking really but just thought it was too good a opportunity to miss.

you're prob only going to gain maybe 1 or 2 fps. not really much of an upgrade. could prob run it at higher AA settings though. have a look at this review for comparisons - http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2926&p=5

remember you can always overclock the 640 yourself so it will be at least on par with your 320 OC. My old 320 used to run all day at 631/951.

Yeah, for £10 totally go for it, but don't expect much/any difference.

I upgraded from the 320 to the 512 and managed to overclock it way much further, but still wasn't significantly faster. Might matter more with modern games as they begin to increase the demand for texture memory even at lower resolutions.
