Hi quick question.

My secondry 8800GTX has just fried (primary working ok still).
I'm very low on cash so can't do a full upgrade.

Do I have to get another 8800GTX to continue with SLI or will a 9800GTX work ok in SLI with the 8800GTX already in-situ on my PC?

Many thanks in advance

5750 Would be slower than 8800GTX SLI tho not by much, 5770 would be closer (8800GTX in SLI can beat the GTX280 in quite a few cases - my 8800GT SLI was around GTX280 speed).

Should be able to find another 8800GTX second hand dirt cheap tho.

You _can_ BIOS mod any G92 based card to SLI with any other G92 based card i.e. 8800GT and 9800GTX _would_ work it is NOT reccomended tho due to issues like microstutter as the drivers were never intended for it.

^This is the only situation were ive seen "micro stutter" on sli cards, having owned a few sli setups over the years using identical cards, it's something ive never experienced in my own usage of sli.

You really should have tried the "baking method" on your "dead" 8800GTX to see if it can save it, or just sell your remaining 8800GTX and get something like a 2nd hand GTX460 768MB/1GB or 5850 for around £90...
