Morning all,

I've just had a new prebuilt system arrived and planend on using my OcUK 8800GTX for a month or two until the high end ATI 6 series cards arrive.

There's no way it's fitting in my Antec 902 Gaming case unless I take off the black bit at the end of the card.

Not really sure what it's there for other than to hold onto when handling the card, has anyone any ideas?

Could be fixed by bending stuff inside the case but don't really want to. I assume i'm not going to have any issues with my planend future card?

Thanks

The black bit at the end of the card...you mean the PCI-E 6-pin power connectors? If it is, you would need keep them plugged in to power the card...

I was gonna get a Antec 902 case myself couple weeks ago...now I'm glad that I gone for a Cooler Master 690 II Advanced instead...

No it's not the power connectors.

It's like a metal handle, that's the only way I can describe it. It's right at the end of the card. I'll take a picture later but if it wasn't there it would fit.

Strangely it's not on that snap, but it's right at the end of the PCB and comes off another couple of inches.

metal handle?

do you mean like a card extender? ( i think thats what their called )
it should be removable

*edit*
you mean like
< this?

Kinda - It's not flat though... shaped a little like ====\ _

The equals symbols are the card, the the last bit shows how the metal 'handle' comes off the card at an angle and then goes straight. Don't think it's an extender.

Sounds like a card extender, I had a 8800GTX in my old Antec 900 (Although I may have had to remove a redundant fan holder from a HDD cage.)

Yeah I can wiggle it almost into position but it's catching on bits of metal in the additional hard-drive bay.

I could either bend them or try and take the end off, looks like I may be able to unscrew it but not 100%. Can't really saw it off as it would be too difficult to hold in a vice.

Hard to say without photos, but as it's not part of the PCB, then it must be removable in theory. Perhaps you would have to take the cooler off first to reveal how to remove it?

Grip the hacksaw between your knees and run the offending part back and forth reasonably gently along the blade. It'll come off eventually :)
