8800gtx or 8800gts?

I have to admit, nVidia driver support is just **** poor.

But I certainly thought the XP drivers worked a lot better, is that not the case?
A high percentage on this forum have only tried the 8800 GTX or GTS on Vista and broach statements such as, "nvidia suck at the mo." Fair enough, but the GTX and GTS have run under XP brilliantly and it seems this doesn't bode well with some of the people who have spent their hard earned cash on the new OS. In this case nV have been well ahead of ATi for a good six months now with XP, yet on here it seems it's every angry Vista user to the next one...

DX10 games aren't here yet and in my experience the new OS was far from being mature, with nothing but a simple aesthetic makeover and a few extra selling points a few XP mods couldn't accomplish anyway. Given i'm a simple gamer who doesn't weigh the extra feautres Vista has to offer over the compatibility issues current games have with drivers, I think nV really shouldn't be given stick as ATi haven't had nothing out with the same performance to drive Vista for quite some time. Once ATi release their new cards with Vista support, it'll be more valid to compare both companies driver support.

Yes but you could also argue that if ATi can find the time and resources to code working drivers for a number of cards that don't support Dx10 (which is Vista's main feature) then surely nVidia should be able to do the same.

I accept that there are no titles for Dx10 currently, but surely if nVidia are going to sell Dx10 capable cards, they should make them usable on the Dx10 operating system? :)

I don't get your first paragraph. How is "cards that don't support DX10" Vista's main feature? Surely supporting DX10 is Vista's main feature as you then go on to say, "they should make them usable on the DX10 Operating System."

No no, I just don't understand why ATi are so much better at coding drivers for an operating system for which they have no card that supports it's main feature. e.g My X1950 works like a charm in Vista, but it has no Dx10 support.

(Sorry if I make little sense, it's midnight and my room must be like 40 degrees :( )

[/QUOTE] listen forget about ati.....just imagine they dnt exist......8800gtx at the moment is turd simple as.....you got a formula 1 car(8800gtx) but of course a formula one car is nothing without a driver yes.....if its got no driver formula one car is just a show piece that dnt move....so ok lets give the car a driver....of course we not going to put a crap driver in the car innit......what happens if we do???...the car aint performing no where near it potential...the car with a crap driver is slow.....dnt matter how good or powerful the car is.....if its got a goosed driver in there then your going to lose....

Thanks for all the replies even if some of there are slightly off topic :D Which was gonna happen.

I'm staying well away from vista (until some decent service packs come out) so the card is staying in XP for the time being.

I'm sure there are lots of people that find the cards great even with poor driver support, but how come there are lots of great reviews that boast the power of the 8800?

Buying it in 3 weeks with the rest of my rig so hopefully a new driver will be out but until then ill have to cope  . With poor driver support don't these cards fly anyways just not to there potential?

Yes in a summary.... GTS or GTX

Lol at this thread :D formaula 1 cars, wheels falling off, vista, ati

"BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
or
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
??"

"What resolution total, and what games ?"

"Two (1680x1050 Resolution)"

GTX.

GTS handles 1920x1200 ok, but would buckle under 2x1680x1050 displays imo.
Get the fastest card u can.

Yup, yet the latest in a line of "netfads" that people get into. The amount of people ive seen posting like that on multiple forums recently is retarded.

Cheers again for the replies. Well I have the cash for the GTX and as the dual screen will have an effect on performance I'm gonna go for the best I can buy.

Anythings better than my x300 :D which I'm using now as I just sold my 7800gt oc.
