8Pack super fast smash the rest i5 Skylake Overclocked, Discounted killer GAMING bundle.

The microcode is updated via windows update. It has nothing to do with staying on the same BIOS.

This is actually incorrect. Windows update can update micro code but the microcode resides within Bios.

So dont update the microcode via windows update all is fine. On ASrock OCF you can even select Microcode you wish to load at boot. Its completely selectable from Bios not windows.

^Is it!! Thats how I role!!

I tested adding updates and performance drops. The OS becomes bloated. Also on more complex rigs that I support 3-4 cards often its an update thats caused a problem. Its the nature of the PC.

You want an OS messing with the stability of your hardware carry on!! But for me I update nothing and am sure I missed out on nothing!!

i was also wondering this, so i copy&paste into google and found this. It says yes.

but i believe the actual real life benefits (gaming) between i5 & i7 are small to none?
So a good i5 overclock would be all one would need i suppose, for the best performance in this price range. Or is it..

I did a little more digging around, one thing lead to another, and i found the i3 bundle. Obviously one would think i3=less performance than i5. especially this bundle which would offer the same performance as similar oced i7. Untill something caught my eye

Well, this changes everything. I figured out on my own i5/i7 are equal in gaming, and 8pack has reported the i3/i5 as being equivalent.

You know where i'm going with this, i3 & i7 will give you the same performance. So it looks like the only cpu worth getting now is Core i3-6100.
For just under £100, or the bundle for £288.

There will be an uprising for sure. All other skylake cpus are obsolete. Bankruptcy is all that awaits intel now.

So.. my actual point was, i'm gonna get the i3 bundle.
thanks.

All good points. As I have always said since Skylake if you need a CPU with HT in your system for your tasks X99 is by far the most atractive package allround. Its the enthusiast grade for very similar price to Z170 i7.

If you dont need HT i3 is fine in 95%+ of instances.

This is not OCUK's stance its mine.

I dont do anything that I know will effect performance. End users its there own choice I am just saying I test all this stuff out and its effecting perf and stability. OS becomes bloated and slow.

Thanks for that. I wasn't used to seeing typos from you. Apologies.

They are all ov er teh spot my errors in typing!! I just hit post and often dont read till pointed out my gaffs!!

ITX maybe yes I will have to look into full testing of appropriately priced and spec of motherboard. When I briefly looked into this before the ITX boards with the appropraite Bios and features where more expensive. This on a Bundle aimed squarely at value I decided not to pursue.

We saw this in Technical in one system on Thursday with it being New years eve I did not get chance to fix.

I will fix tomorrow and report back here.

For now try full Bios reset and report back. You on Win 10??

No its not correct u need i54400 settings. I home now so can't check. But I tested this today and its fully working to solve this issue.

Will provide correct link. But actually you don't need the settings as in figures if u apply correct profile. Just apply profile done.

People, you need to bear in mind that 8 Pack is always after performance and overclock stability, his day-to-day is ragging systems to their peak! I expect the amount of hardware changes his systems (probably) go through is mind boggling! He doesn't need a system to run all day every day typing in Excel, clicking Send/Receive in Outlook and refreshing Chrome... :D

This is exactly my point. The OS becomes very inefficient with time. Especially when adding updates to this.
Pretty sure they sometimes do ;)

Not quite sure when a fresh install every few months wasn't the best way to do things anyway? Peak performance - even on 7! Although I've been quite lax recently due to all of the big game updates and my slow connection... Good shout with WSUS - I use it at work when nuking and paving old PC's!

Exactly my point.

If its not broken why fix it.

What is the issue. This is working 100% for me on many systems.

Try as u did last night i34500. Go into windows.

Then up blk to 125 and adjust mem frequency so mem speed is less than 2666. Reboot into windows and slowly work up. Making sure each time mem frequency is less than 2666.
