Hi All,

As stated above i'm trying to choose between the 9600GT @ £60 and GTS250@ £90, best performance for the money really @ 1280 x1024 Max Res. I'm hoping to play the new Grid 2 / Dirt 2 / Battlefield 1943 when released also.

I aim to team it with New PC :-

P183 Case
I5 750
Asus P7P55D
Corsair 2x2 Gb 1600Mhz
Antec Truepower 430w ( presumably will cope with GTS250 ? not GTX260 though )

Thanks

If it helps with the decision then the GTS250 is the old 9800GT so is a fair bit faster.

Doesn't really make sense to match a 9600GT with something as good as an i5 750.

The GTS250 is the renamer for the old 9800 GTX+, which was the renamer for the 8800 GTS 512mb, the 9800 GT is the renamer of the 8800 GT, so its quite a bit faster than the 9600GT and 9800 GT, but id agree with the above, £2 more to get the 4870 512mb (which is enough memory for that res), or if you can stretch to £13 more, the 1gb one, as the 4870 hammers all those cards. :)

The 9800 GTX+/GTS 250 is faster than both the 9800 GTX and the 8800 GTS 512 (being clocked 9% and 14% faster than each, respectively), so the renaming situation isn't as bad as people suggest.

I would get the 4870, though. It should be about double as fast as the 9600 GT.

If you read the OP I doubt it will be able to power anything over a 250.

Yes the 250 is better than the 9600gt as the 250 is as people say - a 9800gtx+ renamed to sit in with the mix. Its a good card still even after 2 years mine still handles everything on max - except crysis but i dont play that no more!

GTS250, pretty much a 9800GTX++ :p

th power supply should be able to deal with that

I think a HD470 is a bit much, saying that I think the HD4850 which pretty much give or takes compares with the 9800GTXs to my understanding

i have not been looking at every single card on the market through, only the onces I m interested in

wrong

GTS250 is a 9800GTX+

9600gt
8800gt (9800gt)
GTS250

from bad to good..

tbh, the psu should be fine with a GTX260 too, but that's overkill for that res

Thanks for all the feedback guys, this is reasuring, and considering it is 2 years old already will i get another 2 years out of it ? and capable with the new Grid 2 e.t.c games

As for the posters in regard to Ati HD4870 ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-143-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=939 great price though ) e.t.c i must admit i'm more of a Nvidia fan! because of Cooler running / less power demand / and for me always stable / drivers . for comparison i currently have the 6600GT so looking forward to the step up.

My Antec 430w psu only has the 1 PCI power plug so the 260GTX i think would be pushing my luck. plus i want to keep price to a min. amazing how a new build price run's away with you.
