Hi guys, I recently upgraded from an old 980Ti to an RTX2070 Super, and tbh I was expecting a little bit more of a jump in performance, what do you think?

Do you think my CPU is really holding me back that much?

Ummmmm, might have to bite the bullet, I think this 2500k has had its day, it would be interesting to see the difference and edit the new benchmark in the OP.

Get yourself a £190 r5 3600, a £70 B450 mobo and some cheap ddr4 16gb, bye bye cpu bottleneck.

Is there any B450 mobo's that support the 3600 with non-beta bios yet?

MSI B450 board have a bios flashback button so you can update to the latest bios even with no CPU installed. My recommendation would be the MSI B450 GAMING PLUS. And yes you will see a huge difference going from a a 2500K to a 3600, be a good time to upgrade to windows 10 as well.

Your 2500K was a massive bottleneck to a 980Ti also, not just the 2070 super. In fairness I think you posted a thread about this previously and the advice was that your CPU was the major issue so it really shouldn't be a surprise.

The 2500K is incredibly weak now. Especially in terms of minimum frames, 1% lows and 0.1% lows. What you were seeing in SOTTR was a major CPU bottleneck, not your 980Ti holding you back.

If you're on a budget, a Ryzen 2600 + cheap B450M with 16GB DDR4 is very cheap. New 3600 is grand, but the Ryzen 2600 is way cheaper, light years ahead of a 2500K and still a major upgrade.

You are correct tbh but I didn't want to believe it, I've been with this CPU for so long, this chip has served me nearly a decade, I guess part of me just didn't want to give it up, the 2500k has been such as prolific processor but after upgrading my GPU I realise it has had it's day now unfortunately, time to move on.

I'm still undecided where to jump next,

It's a tossup between a cheap i5 9400f, 2600, 8700, or a 3600 paired with a B450 Max Board.

Didn't know what AA you used so I used smaat2x. 6800k 4ghz & oc v64. dx12. Essentially your FPS is almost halved vs what the GPU could do I guess. You can see in the SS it says I'm 100% GPU bound vs 22% in yours.

8700 is £460 with a middle of the road Z390 board and another £40 if you need cooling.

For £500~ you can have a 3700X and X570 board. Pretty easy choice between those two.

This. The 9400f is not a bad CPU but you're firmly in AMD territory at the price point.

I doubt the B450 Max boards will be at the same price of the B450 boards. I picked up a MSI B450 Tomahawk for £90 a couple weeks ago and I've already seen prices go up on that board. I wouldn't be too fussed about the smaller bios chips on the older boards as they will just drop support for some older/low cost CPU's.
Either way I would still wait a month for the bioses to fix the current issues some people are having with B450's and 3000 series.

I would agree it's worth waiting out a bit. In the meantime, a 2nd hand 2600K (or 3770K if board supports it) would be a considerable improvement and get you through for another while. Those extra threads make a big difference now.

I don't know about UK but they can be had for the equivalent of 50/60 pounds respectively in Ireland 2nd hand.

I’ve just bought 4 B450 Arous M boards for around that price. Pretty decent so far.

bump!

Have just upgraded my CPU to an 8700, have edit the new benchmark into the OP, what do you guys think?

Doesn't look like a massive jump just looking at the average but the minimums have nearly doubled.

Minimums is what it's mainly about.

I can't tell the difference between 60 and 144 but if it drops to low you can (or even me)can clearly see the difference.

I've just actually had a look at the difference and it's massive. In every area
