Guessing this is pointless for a 1440p 144hz setup right? GPU is a 1080ti in my bedroom 'HTPC', basically using a 32" 1440p as a TV. Never had any issues with the i5 8500 but can get a 9900KF for about 3 bills from a mate moving to California, missed out on a 2080ti for 600 quid too :o

It's not a bad price, but if you're paying £300 for 2 cores you'll never use, then it doesn't seem worthwhile.

The clock speed (at stock) is a lot higher though, which would help push up frame rates. It's also the maximum CPU that will be available on the socket, so it's likely to hold onto the price better than most.

I'd probably buy its a very decent CPU and probably won't be beaten in games by very much for quite a long time. Maybe ryzen 4000 will thrash it but then you'd need a platform upgrade which is additional time and money.

This^

I have the regular 9900K at 5GHz (and a 1080Ti) and have no intention of upgrading for years (i.e. Playstation 6 release timeframe.)

Good lord i had to order a Gigabyte Z390 Auros pro, the Z370P D3 just can't work with this thing and i suspect the vrms are just not up to task, full turbo causes reboots and random bsod gaming. Cooler is a NHD15 and temps never past 72C, psu is a Corsair something 850w so not that. Works fine at 3.6Ghz, what a power hog!

oh hell that motherboard is never going to handle that 9900k as the vrms is **** poor. even the 9700k would struggle lol. the mobo upgrade is a great choice and will suit the 9900k beautifully :)

lol yea i was going to get a B360 board or something for the 8500 but left it in the D3 and got the Auros, few more quid than i expected on this mission but the 9900K only cost me time really (BTW its a 9900K not KF like he originally said)

Works a treat, moved everything back to my HAF XB case and stuck back an arctic accelero 3 xtreme on the 1080ti, cooling the 9900k with a Phanteks TC14PE (beats my NHD14, my NHD15 is cooling my 3950x) with 2 Akasa Viper 140mm fans. Even under full prime95 load with full AVX it reaches 93C max which is rather decent especially in this weather as it claims 239W TDP via Hwmonitor, no throttle either 4.7Ghz all cores. Gaming is 63C tops with GPU never passing 60C and quiet as hell.

Cheers, really like this board. Only slight annoyance is the RGB but disabled it via fusion as it attracts a 2 stone moth ( my 22 month daughter/monster) :D shes already done in my 50" TV and a few speakers so don't need water or some odd thing inside this machine lol.

lol shes learning and its amazing to watch how the brain develops, can't fault her for being curious but at the same time must protect my stuff to some degree :) We're still trying to find out what she used to whack the tv screen with!
