A/AS results

I'm quite nervous about uni now.

I don't drink and as a result think I won't fit in that well.

When I was in 6th form I didn't get on with many people of the same age and I did badly.

When I went to college the following year lots of people were in their mid 20's and I got on with them really well, the result of that was I went from DEEU to BBB in the space of one year.

Has anyone got any advice about starting uni?

I didn't drink much at uni at all, I never saw it as being a problem. I had no interest in clubs etc, but living in a shared house there were always friendly people around, friends of friends etc, who really didn't care.

Chill out dude, everyone will be feeling the same as you :) just try and make some friends off the bat and you'll be fine! We were all in the same boat once.

Thanks for the support guys.

I had a couple of days of mixed emotions after getting my results. I got in to my first choice but I slipped a grade which annoyed me slightly.

Anyway got to start buying lots of stuff now. :D

Don't worry too much, most of the people there will be just a nervous as you are feeling about it.

I was a bit like a bit like this, I had never been clubbing until I went to uni.

Buy yourself a nice PC it will give you something to do to take your mind off the first few days. My first day or so were spent playing on my PC as I there was only me and one other person in my student apartment at the time.

Don't worry about not drinking just join a few societies or what not can easily find some like minded people that way. Although I do recommend giving it a whirl in the first week during freshers and see how you feel about it after that .

1. Great sample size you have there
2. Being employed isn't the greatest achievement in the world. PwC is big, but that means very little. Lloyds is huge but if you're working the phones nobody cares.

If your close friend winds up at the top of the pile at pwc, then it might be a notable exception. As it is it's barely even notable.

Kind of missed the point there... He's in his final year of doing ACA so by no means is he 'working the phones'.... Chances are he'll either keep going at PWC, or depending on his role (probably audit) chances are he will go into industry, but they generally say those that come out of PWC audit go straight into industry at senior manager+ level. Whilst his example is from a small sample size, it doesn't really matter which of the big four he's at, probability suggests he will go somewhere....

Not really sure anyone is ranting about quality of unis....

Anyway, you don't necessarily need a degree to do accounting at one of the top firms.

have to agree with this though. They don't care so much about quality of unis at the big four, more how you do in their application process and that you've got a 2:1.

There's also schemes that take in students straight out of school though, so yeah, you don't actually need a degree for it.

Doesn't matter - 'my mate' is still a non story and contributes essentially nothing.
