Howdy,

Twas a nice day so I have polished the car for the 1st time in nearly a year.

Used a clay bar for the 1st time, and it sure does make a huge difference!

I also fitted the new M5 style black Hamann grills.

Nope, whats wrong with it?

It has all the controls for the stereo and cruise on it, which is usefull.

Anyway I want to get rid of the whole car, not just the steering wheel ;-)

Its because I don't like the Sport rear bumper. The front of the car looks pants IMHO with the stock bumper, thats all I wanted to change.

Selling a 540i for a ... SMART car?

Yup, whats wrong with that. I don't need a huge 4.4L V8 to drive around town. Plus I have to park this on street which is a PITA most time.

TBH each to their own. I added bits and bobs to suit my tastes, not to make it something it is not. I like the shark fin, at least it is not chrome. The sports bumper looks better than the stock and the alloys I like.

It has nothing to do with affording to keep it, or run it. It is more about the practicality of owning such a car. I have residents parking here and this is a right PITA to park most days. Plus I am tootling around town most days, this is not what the car was deisgned for.

I did go straight from the BMW dealers to the SMART dealer (opposite) and had a play with the roadster and Fourtwo. I really like both.

The 5 is an utterly awesome car, and it is perfect in almost every way. Fast, smooth, comfortable and has tonnes of toys. It will be a sad day when she goes, but I aspired to own one, and I have done that. Time to move on.

Not too sure on the front grille, but rest looks good. Keep hearing good things about using clay bar, so got one coming Monday :)

I have the original chrome ones in the boot, and the clay bar is amazing. It is true what you read about them!

Looks great, especially the grille and wheels. Would be interesting to see what it would like with colour coded rub strips.

I posted a while back about colour coding them, the general consensus was it was a bad idea.

The mods have stopped now, no point in continuing.

As for the thing of getting a smart car steve your to tall for one unless you get one with the roof that folds back - you need something like a S2000 lol

I know what you mean, I had trouble in the roadster, the fourtwo was great though, really roomy.

I will go back on Monday when somebody is there, so I can take a test drive :-)
