So, my dad looking to upgrade his pc, and wants a dual core machine... will not be used for gaming at all... looking for somthing that will compete with this http://www.acer.co.uk/public/page9....n&ctx3=146&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=2624507310
the amd X2 4000+ with the 250gb hdd
and to make it even more difficult (as if a £250 2ghz dual core machine wasn't hard enough) the case must be smaller than 40cm tall.... so probably have to be micro ATX

doesn't need to include an os or a dvd drive, speakers keyboard or monitor... but would like a non-turbocache/hypermemory graphics card and 2gb of ram would be good.... as the machine is likely to go on vista...
any advice or ideas would be good

one last thing my Dad will not be overclocking AT ALL ever.... the pc will mainly before web surfing, word documents and possibly some encoding once in awhile.

Thanks

Why do you need a dual core 2gb machine for web browsing and ms office?

If you really must have a stupid amount of wasted power, it is not hard to spec such a simple system...

You could save another £1.17 if you change the HD for a Hitachi and the overall price will come under £250 if you opt for 1GB of RAM.

[edit]
Oops! I've specced XP Home instead of Vista.
Vista Home Basic costs the same
Vista Home premium would add £14.00

Winrar by a factor of 10. :D

Still don't understand why your dad needs that much power for just basic office work.......

slight overkill.

the idea, is that he spends the money now... old socket A 2200+ just not cutting it, gets a smaller case.. which is neater... and will never need to upgrade again...

Is that because it hasnt been setup properly and not formated for a long while? xp2200+ is MORE then fine for web browing lolz, maybe get a new bigger HDD with lots of cache and re-format and install all the latest drivers for you chipset etc. far more cost effective, my brother uses a Pentium M 1.6 laptop with 256mb ram for web browing, and MSN........ it runs perfectly...
