A couple of newbie questions regarding graphics cards

Hello Guys,

Been lurking around here for some time now, trying to catch up on things related to my future purchase of a gaming comp for around £1000 (including ALL parts). I am looking at at the Intel I5 that I found in the guide in the General Hardware section as my point of departure.

Some things are still very confusing to me, however, and I hope that I can get some help to sort out some basic stuff.

When I look at the Graphics and Video Section and, more specifically, at the ATI HD 4890 Series here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&subid=1403 I am a bit confused about what card to pick.

Is there, for instance, a direct relation between price and quality such that higher price is always better (barring OCUK's deal of the week)?

Is there anything in particular that I should look for that distinguishes one card from another on that list?

I think those are my main two questions for now. I would, of course, also greatly appreciate any additional information that you could give.

One more thing just to clarify: I have not decided whether to go for the ATI 4890 or for something else. My questions above are meant to be general.

Cheers!

For a new build I would definitely lean towards the new tech Ati stuff like the 5770 or if money's no object 5850\5870. Depends a lot on your monitor and what resolution it is and what type of games you play. Best bang for buck for me right now is 2 X 5770 of which Ocuk have a fine choice of. All the cards are pretty much the same so I would go for the ones with the 2 or 3yrs warranty. Ocuk are due Sapphire Vapor-X 5770's on Monday if you like something slightly different but they are overpriced in my opinion.:)
