A Couple of Retards and a Gas Leak...

Moral of the story is that the gas company is not a real emergency service and the fire brigade is.

You betcha. :) The moral here is that if you have an emergency where the Police can't help and an ambulance is not required, call the Fire Brigade. It still astounds me that so many people do not know that we are there for them.

Top tip. If you have a bust gas pipe and want it plugged, ram a potato onto the end of the pipe, it'll stop the leak for a short time while you get proper help sorted.

It is almost odourless, enough that the average human could not detect it unless an odorant is added.

It is in its 'raw' form.

Iirc they add an extract of asim18's threads to make it smell like ****.

Natural gas is odorless. They inject odor into it after they process it

Edit-bit late
Natural gas does indeed have an oily smell. I've smelt gas leaks in places where the odoriser hasn't yet been added to it.

Lol, They add the smell artificially before it's pumped into supply. It's a safety procedure, some school blew up in the 1930's I think because of the build up of gas no-one could detect and since then they have added odorants (smells).

Someone who works for Transco told me that there have been a few occasions in which there was a leak of the odorant from a factory that makes it. Cue hundreds of phone calls reporting a smell of gas.
