A different insurance renewal quote

When I renewed with Admiral in the last few days, they asked for the quote reference of the insurer I was using to haggle with. This happened to be from Elephant so I was confident they would at least match it. Must be catching quite a few people making up their own quotes though :p.

This has been my experience every year for the past 3 years.

Admiral renewal letter (usually only slightly cheaper, this year £50 more expensive)-> Confused.com -> Elephant £50-£100 cheaper -> Admiral Match.

Cheeky so-and-so's :p

not really cheeky, if they all had the same price whats the point of having the sister companies ? they all target different sections of the insurance market, but rather than send you out cancellation documents and then to send you out new business documents its more cost effective to match the price

It is cheeky IMO, they obviously can get a better price at renewal for most people, so why isn't that the price they charge? It's just a cynical ploy to get more money from the lazy or forgetful.

I'm with Admiral and have been since I started driving, every renewal has been considerably higher than the internet price. This year they quoted something like £1170 when I paid £850 last year. Phoned them up and got it down to £755, still a lot more than I wanted to pay but the insurance market for us younguns at the moment is dreadful. No one could even get close to them :(. 22yo 2NCB good postcode Corolla T Sport.

I had a similar thing with eSure for two years running. Not only did they offer a much lower quote year on year it was actually better than anything else I could find by searching

not really cheeky, most policies i would say change in someway at the renewal, unless you can show me value of car that doesnt change in 12 months, so unless they have shiney crystal ball to see how everyone who's drives details have change then the renewal quote they send out will always have a good chance of being inaccurate.

its also a case of they automatically renew because some people are lazy/forgetful, so say 10/15% of people forget about their renewal, it lapses, most insurance companies either dont cover highly rate upon IN10 offence, so that is 10/15% of people they cant cover.

and for the cynical ploy, the compnays that i have forgotten to advise i wont be renewing, cancelled down free of charge once they had proof that i had set up my insurance from the renewal date, so i was no worse off and i went my separate thing
