Hi guys,

I've ordered a Connect3D X1800XT from OcUK but i'm new to ATi having had an nVidia card and never needing to setup an ATi one.

A couple of things:

1) Which drivers are best to use?
2) Should i install CCC or Tray Tools etc?
3) What program do i use to overclock it? Can it be done via the drivers like with Nvidia?

Cheers :)

1) Try the 6.6 non-CCC or Omegas. 2) Then install Tray Tools. 3) Use ATitool to overclock.

Dont forget to remove all traces of the Nvidia graphics card drivers first. (if needed)

Cheers for the quick reply :)

So i take it to never install CCC?

I'll be doing a full driver clean with driver cleaner pro. Then i'll mess about with the card a bit and then do a fresh install of windows. It's all gd ;)

Its bloated and unnecessary (thanks to using .NET framework). Better to avoid it than mess around making it less of a memory hog.

CCC isn't that bad, I've had no problems with it personally.

Perhaps the earlier versions I used werent as good. If you're interested OP I suggest you try both approaches and see which you like better (But keep ATitool either way).

I expect so.. I only changed to CCC myself when they stopped doing the standard panel (officially) :)

I am in the same position as the OP, can you guys tell me why you'd recommend 6.6 over 6.7?

Also, is CCC - Catalyst Control Centre?

Where can you find 6.6 without CCC, I've looked at the ATI and Guru3d site, the diver at both site seem to contain CCC...

Same here, works great for me, yes the CCC is the Catalyst Control Centre, he must be used to bloatware card drivers and the .NET as thats what Nvidia use as well. :p

Either grab just the drivers on their own from the ATi site, by grabbing them from the dial up users section (that splits them up), then download ATi Tray Tools from Guru to do all your AA/AF settings etc... or download the NGO drivers which are just the CAT's, but have the old Control Panel if you don't want to use the CCC, but seen as you've never used the CCC before as your new to ATi then you may as well give it a try and make your own mind up about it. :)

I drove down to OcUK today and picked up a C3D X1800XT on special as my 7900GT decided to die, I couldn't cope not playing games for 2-4wks while its RMA'd:o

I'm getting an error about CLI application or something when I access the CP, any ideas?

Have you got the .NET installed.

If you wanted to if all you use the CCC for is your AA/AF settings etc... then you could just get rid of it all, and just insatll the drivers and ATi Tray tools to do all your settings.

You could try re-installing the .NET again as well see if that gets rid of the error, then if not do as above. :)

Also, ensure you install NET 1.1 (even if you have NET 2.0 installed) if you are going to use CCC (i also use CCC & have no problems; running Cat 6.6).

Thanks for the great responses, i'll bear it in mind when i install the card.

dont sit there doing nothing!
overclock those 6600GT's to melting point
But they're what's funding my new card :p I've tried to clock them to melting point already, (don't tell the buyer though :p) and managed to get the core up to 750MHz . That only happened because i had just got them and didn't have anything to fully stress them so i was using Joint Operations Typhoon Rising to stress them which it handled fine with no artifacts. I then got 3DMark03 and there were artifacts all over the place. I'm surprised i didn't kill the card!

PS. How do you remember that i have 6600GT's? Are you stalking me :\

:p

Can someone point me to the X1900 Overclocking guide on these forums, i can't find it

Thanks :)

EDIT: One more thing. Is there an equivalent of nVidia's Digital Brightness for ATi? If so then where abouts in the driver will i find it? Thanks
