as some of you know... i play drums. As i have just splashed out on a nice new Bronze Free Floating Snare, i would like a nice set of heads to go with it :). I was thinking of a Remo Powerstroke for the Batter Head? and maybe an ambassador reso for the resonant head? what do you drummers think?

I'm embarrassed not to be able to advise you here. I've been playing drums for nearly 15 years and have never changed a head. I changed kits before any heads wore out when I used to play acoustic, and now I'm a V-Drum fanboy.

I've always been very satisfied with all things Remo though.

evans reverse dot if you want power.
evans genera, genera dry (good on really ringy snares)

I thought the remo powerstroke was ok, I just prefer evans :)

really as with all heads it is trial and error to suit the drum itself.

edit: link to the snare you bought? interested to see it :)

If you're going Remo, then Ambassador/Controlled Sound on top with an SS ambassador on the bottom.
If you're going Evans, G1/Powercenter over Hazy 300.

Anything else on a snare sounds awful tbh.

I use Ambassador coated, simply because it's the best sound I get out of mine (it's the stock with a Tama Superstar).
Why not take your snare into a well known drum shop and ask to try out heads?

IIRC, pearl snares come with remo heads as standard. I'd leave them on for a bit and see what sounds you can get out of them.

I think they're coated Ambassador top and Diplomat ss bottom
