one Sigma 150mm Macro F2.8
and a
Sigma 120-300mm EX F2.8

yummy.

Darn you Cookie-Monster!

Noticed you'd got that on POTN.

I'd asked after that very 150... but then it was mysteriously snapped up! ;)

Lovely set of lenses you have there - how sharp's that macro?

gt

That's right - didn't the guy who sold you them call you the 'bread and water'-monster from now on! :D

If you have trouble using either i can give them a good home!!! ;)

Enjoy them mate!

gt

That is sharp!

You're gonna get some good stuff with that.

Those 120-300's are supposed to be simply awesome too!

Bet you'll be busy snapping over the weekend! ;)

yeah might pop down to the Shoreham by sea air show, mr Typhoon is supposed to be making an appearance.

the 120-300 is supposed to have more of a learning curve than the 100-400L (which i guess is the closest canon comparative) although a great lens once got to grips with and for me anyway worth the time to get to know for having 2.8 throughout and the option of up to 600mm f5.6 with appropriate converters.

Its gonna take me a while to get used to hand holding a 5D with Battery Grip and 2.6kg lens.

It will be interesting.

Most i've ever had to deal with is my 350D, grip and a sigma 170-500 (1.35kg)

Trying to sort a 300mm f/4 IS for my 30D but they're nowhere near what you're gonna have to hold.

You got a monopod or something? ;)

gt

have a tripod, need to acquire a monopod, although of limited use for airshows, fine for cars that move on a more linear plane.

Just glad to have a lens that outstrips my ability as was beginning to find some limitations of the Sigma 70-300 APO, (which is understandably a much cheaper lens) and the one I started with.

Either way sitting here with a glass of wine and a beaming grin on my face.

oh nice lens (120-300) what they go for then ????

I use a mono pod at airshows, tried for years not to, but with old prop based aircraft you need to steady it a bit to keep the shutter speed down. Does take practice, and a tilt/pivot head. Plus make sure it's tall enough, as soon as you point upwards, it has to be taller than you, or you squatting to get under the view finder.

Look forward to seeing some shots with it matched to the 5D

The 120-300 2.8 is a truly awesome lens. No-one else does a 300 2.8 that zooms! It misses OS/VR/IS though, but for the money I aint complaining!

I paid £1150 from HK for mine.

It works really well on a monopod. I use a Giottos P-Pod. :)

I'm 6'3" so its gonna have to be one hell of a tall monopod!

they go for about £1700 new from one of the major uk web based retailers.
(£1225 in HK at the moment)

mine is a couple of years old and cost closer to £700 than £1700.
seems to be in perfect condition, as far as i've managed to work out there is minimal difference between the old and the new

I think it's viable to hand hold, its smoother to hand hold and pan than to try to hold a still frame.

either way experimentation will be the key

Once you mount on a head, and the lens on the head it give more height so, 7ft mono pods are not required ;)..... admittedly I'm a couple of UV filters under 6 foot ..LOL

£700 sounds like a good deal......

Stop blooming willy-waving you lot!

*slinks away muttering 'far too much money, t'is only a hobby etc etc'*

(i'm only jealous btw!! :D)
