So a mate is upgrading his PC and has an Nvidia 7600GS as his graphic card, but only has £50 to upgrade his GPU, he likes his games, namely WoW, Empire Total War, crysis, CoH an FS X.

Can you spec him a card?

I would convince your friend to up his budget a little bit more because a 9500GT Is a terrible card especially when you can get so much more performance for a little more money.

For £60 he could get a 4670 which would be a lot faster than a 9500.

For £77 he could get a 4830 which is quite a bit faster than both a 9500 and a 4670.

It would be in his best interests in my opinion for him to save a bit more, he'll be happier in the long run and his card will last a lot longer.

EDIT: I need to not start a reply and finish it 10 minutes later :p

Is that a 512Mb or 1Gb Gram? titke says 512, info says 1gb...

The RAM isn't gonna help a 9500, they're terrible.

Loads of RAM is just a gimick on cards of that performance point.

It's for the people who think the amount of RAM a graphics card has determines how fast it is.

Have to back up the 4670 recommendation. It's really the cheapest real gaming card you can buy. NVidia's 9600gso is almost as fast but uses more power and isn't any cheaper.
If you do go the 9600gso route, avoid the 768mb ddr2 cards like the plague, they perform worse than the 384mb DDR3 cards.
The amount of extra performance you get spending £60 rather than £50 is quite considerable.

would have to say +1 for the 4670 option if he can afford it bth if he can live with the 7600gs for a while longer and save a bit more money for a half decent card then that would be an even better option

or another option would be to try and get a 2nd hand 8800GT-512MB/GTS-512MB or even the GTX. With the new cards just released there will probably be a few around. They are still a great card. I wouldn't bother with the 8800GTS 320 or 640MB or the 8800GT-256MB.
