A mouse has to be the hardest thing to choose!

When it comes to most hardware, it is easy to decide what to get because you can either base it on aesthetics or good old performance, but a mouse is almost purely subjective and will vary from one person to the next.

I bought an MX1000 couple of years ago and to be honest, the thing has always made my hand cramp after not too much use. however, I feel I have now used it long enough to justify the cost, and am in the market for a replacement.

But what the hell to choose? There are some great looking mice out there, and there are some that claim "super duper fix your aimer included to frag those noobs", but.... meh, is it comfy on my hand?

Have decided to move away from Logitech having had the MX1000 - I am sure there are probably vast differences between it and, say, the g5, but the shapes all look very similar.

And buttons! Oh my, so many buttons! Personally, I have never used more than right/left/middle on my MX1000. I am not sure if it's cause the placement is bad and awkward for me to get to them, or if I simply never will use all the buttons because my hands ain't that flexible...

So, have finally rounded it down to a handful:
Microsoft Habu - think the size will be good for my hand
Razer Krait - nice and simple
Raptor M3 - like the "wings" to lessen finger-drag
Genius Navigator 535 - just appeals for some reason
Accuratus Crosshair - cheap as chips, but simple and looks comfy
Razer Deathadder - Nice looking puppy

And for the life of me I can not choose. And I don't want to buy and send back. HELP!

Edit: taken the Diamonback out. Too many reports of *** side buttons getting pressed accidentally.

Edit 2: added the deathadder

I sometimes get little hand cramps on my G5 too, as it doesn't support the right side of your hand - it just hang off the edge, so while i'm gaming i tend to keep it rigid. Not sure how to help you other than suggesting typing "ergonomic mice" in google. :p

Looked at doing hand exercises or using the mouse less? (depending on your circumstances obviously :)).

Have you looked at the 518? I have the 510 which is the same shape and have grown to really like it. However like you say mice are very subjective so i can't tell you which will suit your hand the best.

I've got a Razer Copperhead and its very comfortable and the big buttons mean u don't have to have your hand all the way over it, so if you're not too fussed about side buttons then I'd go for the Krait as it looks very similar in shape and has the large buttons too

Ordered a deathadder last night. So hopefully it's the mouse for me.

Dunno though, really liked the look of the Genius mouse, and the reviews I found were all very positive.

I am surprised not more people have it, because it just comes across as a really good mouse.

Should have my deathadder by tomorrow, read some good reviews on it.

You won't be disappointed with the Deathadder. I have used the Logitech MX518 and G5, both of which are extremely good mice, but the DeathAdder IMO is better... :p

Ive been using a Accuratus Crosshair for the last year. Its comfy and all but a little cheap tbh. Only the basic 2 buttons plus wheel. Its ok but nothing special.
I am actually getting a different one soon because its boring!! :)

ARGH!!!

Ordered my Deathadder on the big auction site... only realised today the seller is in Singapore!!!!

Hopefully they have not posted it yet and I can cancel. Just don't feel good about ordering hardare from overseas...

Sigh. Was settings a limit of £40 for a mouse and that one came to under £40 including delivery - now I know why.

I got mine from a site named after a long river somewhere in South America. It also came from Singapore and took about ten days to arrive. When it did I was delighted with it. The DeathAdder, apart from its daft name and naff blue lights is a great mouse. I'm not a great gamer but my son is. We both think that this is the best mouse we've ever owned. Our earlier Logitech MX518 had started to fall to bits and neither of us liked the sweaty feel of the Logitech.

The Logitech G5 Version 2 is great i just got it with the G15 keyboard. It finally has two thumb buttons. Excellent reviews so far. It now USB report rate of 1000 reports/second and a few other items compared to the version 1.

I just have a simple, cheap Genius NetScroll: Eye, had it for a few years now with no problems. I really can't stand these new and "fashionable" oddly shaped mice, as mentioned they make your hand ache.

I also hate mice with side buttons, my local internet café has them and I'm forever accidentally clicking them, you can't get a good grip without clicking them.

Only one you should consider (unless you're a lefty) :)

Tried the diamondback, copperhead, saitek gaming mouse, saitek gm3200 and microsoft intellimouse explorer and all were nowhere near the deathadder.

Well, managed to cancel my order from Singapore.

Although, as I did not want to spend more than £40 including delivery, I am now back to square one picking a mouse.

It's the MS Habu, or the Genius Navigator 535 (I don't know why I keep coming back to the 535, but it just appeals for some reason)

It's available for just over your budget.

Surely you can stretch to that - the Habu (although similar in looks) is a far inferior product.

Remember - google is your friend.
