Yes I drive a corsa as it was given to me.
lets get that out of our system, lol
More to the point for a while now when ive gone over speed bumps and had a lot of friends in the car/or been on my own I hear a knocking and a banging, like something was loose. Eventually with friends in the car it just started to rattle like it was resting on something.
So i took it to a small garage just down the road from me and one of the mechanics said it was likely that the pipe leading into the back box was banging on the rear axle, and corsa have silly exhaust designs and it was quite common. They were too busy them to confirm it so i booked it in for today. He said they'd probaly just re-align it maybe some new mounts and put some rubber on the axle to stop in banging(something to that effect)
So he gets it on the lift after I hear him rev the **** outta my car. And calls me round to come look where i see this...

The cars an L reg and done 42k miles for the record. The photos a bit naff as it taken on my fone. Obviousley its rusted around, snapped slightley and got a lovely hole too! He put his hand and covered the exhaust pipe and I could hear it blowing.
So its down the garage being fixed at the moment, with a new middle pipe and back box. Im no mechanic but that seemed logical and the snap was in the middle pipe and the hole on the pipe at the rear of the back box. £92 including VAT fully fitted they quoted and I didnt think that was too bad ,although I have little experience with car repairs as ive been driving about 7 months.
I asked if would affect what little power delivery my car had and fuel consumption and I was indeed correct. Which explains why my car likes to drink petrol
God knows how long it had been like that, but at least its being sorted now!
So is this a reasonable price, and a common problem? Out of interest what would have happened if i'd of left it longer/not realised? The whole back box drop off? and consume silly amounts of petrol?
thanks in advance
