A Serbian Film. Most messed up film ever?

Saw this posted in IRC a while back. Gore porn horror doesn't really do it for me. I find slasher and gore horrors to be generic and boring with an emphasis on out goring the previous. I think this is an attempt to set a mark so high nobody will ever be able to surpass it.

Yeah it did nothing for me too. Whilst I know it's pretty twisted and weird, I'm desensitised with all of that stuff now, especially since seeing the stuff the Internet has to offer. :o

Yeah, if you hang out regularly in some of the internet's darker corners, stuff like A Serbian Film is pretty mild. It's almost impossible to shock the hardened gorehounds these days, short of gutting their own parents on film. The main reason being that 90% of horror directors haven't realised that the key to scaring an audience is in the audio, not the visuals.

What the hell is wrong with people that they feel the need to watch this in the first place?

It was made, so there is obviously a demand. Why there is a demand, I really do not know but it saddens me that humanity can be so grim.
 
its a film. art. no one was harmed. worse things happen for real everyday yet the sort of people who will 'outrage' against this dont give a damn over all of that. just look at the war crimes and the sort of things those pesky catholics get up to

its not my sort of film but its not worth worrying over either. definitely not worth getting sad at the whole of humanity over. its just curiosity

Yes, I understand it's art which is why I'm not advocating burning the makers at stake.

However, art - to me - is something that reflects society and human nature. A film like this is only reflecting the darkest, nastiest parts of ourselves which is all well and good. However, there has become a recent trend - and it's a trend which I believe this movie falls into - that such 'art' has become nasty for nasty sake and at which point, to me, it is no longer art. In this incidence, I stop and wonder why is it that people feel the need to be entertained by such morbid explorations.

I'm very much a person who likes to think the best of humanity but I'm proven wrong on a daily basis. Films like this - or rather, the demand for it - certainly does not help.

Just read the plot and while I like my horrors, this just seems like showing gore on screen for the sake of showing it without any reason or plot. I mean seriously, the plot is just there as an excuse to basically show a lot of of rather twisted and disgusting set pieces by the sounds of it. For me personally that's not what cinema is about and in this case they just appear to be exploiting the media to satisfy god knows what agenda.
