A single nuclear weapon has “gone missing”

This is what happens when you have "care in the community" a load of schizophrenics let loose in the community typing what the voices tell them for the consumption of the gullible masses.

Any nuclear device can be tailed back to its origin by the unique signature its material leaves behind. So you can't get away with it once detonated everyone would know from where it came. If you really want to wipe populations out there are much better ways to do it.

I've been wondering Is nuclear bomb radiation a myth or are modern nukes different to Hiroshima/Nagasaki. I don't mean they don't produce radiation but that land is unlivable afterwards. Read several studies that have said most of the radaition is in the initial blast and lasts a fraction of a second after that you have the fallout rain which is contaminated. But after that radiation dissipates extremly fast. Within days your at some silly small number and that there is no more than normal background radiation now.

There is a big difference between an airburst and a groundburst on the long term effects. The way the bomb is configured to explode also determines the longterm effects on the environment. Whether it is a twostage, boosted fission or pure fission (either gun assembly/implosion) makes a big difference. I suppose if someone could make a pure fusion they would get rid of pretty much all of the fallout.

salted bombs are the ones that produce huge amounts of long lastuing radiation.

but they have low yields because they're quite inefficient.

I thought no real salted bombs had ever been made or have they? But yes if they have been made then say a 60Co bomb would drastically increase the long-term effects.

To be fair its only 500kt, the USSR tested things 100x the size in their own "garden" (not saying the guys right, it sounds stupid to me too, just pointing that out)
