A single nuclear weapon has “gone missing”

I thought no real salted bombs had ever been made or have they? But yes if they have been made then say a 60Co bomb would drastically increase the long-term effects.

they've been made just not deployed iirc.

like neutron bombs they were useful for a time (stop soviet tank rushes) but are useless against modern tanks so are retired.

think it's something similar with salted ones they existed purely to halt a soviet advance long enough to reinforcements to get to Europe.

My uncle was stationed in Germany during the cold war, they were told if it kicked off then their life expectancy was 48hrs at best, they were there to slow the enemy down not stop them.

I really doubt such a thing has occurred. A nuclear bomb isn't like a set of car keys. You don't just lose a nuclear bomb.

Stringent controls and measures are always in place with anything that has the words "nuclear" and "bomb" in it.

You would think so. However, a couple of years ago the US Airforce managed to fit one on a B-52 by mistake (nobody noticed...) and flew it across the country!

Not to mention the ones that vanished when the USSR broke up. Nobody even knows how many that is....could be 1, 10 or none at all.
