ok so, i just yesterday went wireless,it setup without a hitch, browsed/gamed all evening yesterday and till about 3:15 today when i went to collect my sister from school
when i got home at 3:30 my ps3,pc and my sisters pc's couldnt pick up the signal from the router even though it was exactly where it sat for the last 30 hours or so,i just spent 2 hours moving it around until i found that half way up the stairs about 5 ft off the stairs it works,so instead of hiring someone to hold it in that position i am now typing this using the cable the wireless was designed to replace,

there is only 2 things that changed from yesterday to today,

1/ i saw another network available this morning that wasnt there yesterday(even though wireless worked up until 3:15)

2/ the weather outside took a turn for the worse and that was around 2-3pm

could someone please help me as i really dont want the wire running up the stairs again as we almost had a very serious accident a week or so ago

thanks for any help the you may bbe able to render

What wireless channel are both your and the other networks using?
If they're the same, or fairly close together, try changing yours to a channel further away.

i dont suppose you could tell me how to check/change the channels as i do not know how,or atleast point me in the right direction

edit; i found something in the setup part of my routers website which gives me the option,
vpi/vci: 0.38(uk default),1.50,8.53,would this have anything to do with it?

i cant find out what channel the router is on but ive found the channel the adapter is on, its 6
but without knowing what channel the router is on or being able to change it is there any point in changing the adapter,or will the router reconfigure itself to match the adapter?

The adapter will connect to the channel the router's using - you need to change the channel on the router or the adapter won't connect on the new channel. What router are you using?
You need to try to work out what channel the other network's using too. Netstumbler might help there though.

i used network stumbler and the other network is on channel 1,so im guessing there shouldnt be any interference?

on a brighter note i have the cable secured(not in the way) and the router is working on channel 6(6 feet away rather that 12 feet away when it was downstairs),and since its working outside my door im guessing it was some kind of electrical intereference from wiring between down and upstairs.
but that wouldnt explain why it was working at one time and not another

my router is an aol supplied one, a thomson speedtouch 585 v6

i press the start/network/right click on the router and hit properties

in there there is nothing regarding channels only a link to a webpage where i find info about it,where once again there is nothing about channels,i can choose to set it up again but in the set up process there was no option to choose the channel
