Might as well be consistent, I'm not a fan of the idea in general and nothing much has changed so my opinion from before still stands.
I've never really liked the idea of reputation meters - it's always struck me as a bit of a popularity contest. That's not to say that some people won't deserve the glowing reputation that they've acquired but equally it would require reset fairly regularly to ensure that people don't just live on past reputation as once you've got say 10k+ reps or whatever then it's going to be pretty difficult to lose them even if you consistently give rubbish advice. It also may give the impression that knowledge in one area where you'd rightly be "repped" transfers to another - suppose for a second you know lots about CPUs but ventured into another area of the forums and said that you should feed a dog bars of chocolate - that's absolutely terrible advice but someone just looking at the reputation might think they know what they're talking about.
Obviously in that example you've still got to use your judgement but that's the whole reason I don't see the point, you should always exercise your own judgement as to the merits of a poster's advice rather than relying on the shortcut of what other people think of them.
Could always have different scores for the different sections in the forums, as obviously the GD people would have broken scores as not much goes through the GD seriously, but the other sections seem to be fairly useful and might make use of a system of 'thanks'.
I don't really see the point of it TBH, why do you need to see how helpful someone is? You post and people answer, if someone gives bad advice on here others will soon point it out.
You've been registered since 2005. During that time have you seen anything change? New avatars? A new color scheme even? I guess the logo did change.....that's all I can think of.
And that was months after the competition had ended.
Not that I mind though, that's the one thing I like about this forum. The latest vB forums look like crap, with too many design changes and other stuff implemented. Simplicity is best.
My phone(s) are more than capable of viewing the forum in full (Desire and Desire HD), but a skin almost customised for phone view is just a little nicer....
