A Third of Models Banned From a Fashion Show For Being Too Thin

The regional government in Madrid has banned roughly a third of the models expected to appear in a fashion show there in about a week because they feel their excessively thin bodies will send the wrong message to young women in their country.

Government officials have come to an agreement with a health organization there to set a minimum body mass index of 18 for the models who participate in the event.

Many of the models who were ousted caused a stir during last year's show when they said putting on weight would jeopardize their career.

If the people can not govern themselves, the government has the duty to do it for them (that's what they were voted in for).

Ridiculous, BMI <16 I could agree with but BMI 18 is borderline normal and often healthy. BMI isn't even an accurate measurement as everyone is different in size in terms of muscles and build.

Very good to Madrid. Excessivly thin women don't even walk normally it's horrible. I like seeing women there with the right amount of meat

This is pretty stupid, if people want to go see thin women they should be able to, not have the goverment enforce these rules. If there was to be a fat model show I would not complain, I just would not go. Its up to the young women themselves to make up their minds not the goverment to do it for them. Not to mention the fact BMI is massively inaccurate.

Lindsay Lohan is a name that springs to mind first. When she became mainstream famous, she looked fantastic. Now she looks as bad as Nicole Ritchie posted above. Horrible.
