It's taking a well deserved breaking in Dubai, It said it feels like it was being used and abused by certain ocuk figures and that if things carry on then he will have to seek his GPs advice and go off sick with stress.

I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with that diagnosis. I think it was getting depressed and lonely. Due to the fact that forum noobs never took the time to introduce themselves properly.

wouldnt it make more sence to sticky the thread saying no more search button for a few days?

No one reads sticky s, the only way to do it, would to have a pre GD page like MM used to have.

Now on topic, does anybody know roughly how many search threads have appeared today?

Can you not add a short message to the forum summary? Sure Ive seen it on other forums using vB.

Or even add it as a new (closed) thread that everyone is auto-subscribed to so when they check their User Control Panel (who doesnt?) it will just appear as another thread they are participating in so might prompt them to check it.

Seems a clean way to do it and not too much effort Id hope?

It's only for a day or two, too much work :p

But in general it would be a good mechanism and hopefully breed good habits into forumites who are too used to setting up a new thread just to annoy to pick up this information...

Well worth the bother in the long run IMO...
