Just a reminder to all motorists out there to check your antifreeze levels, now that it looks that the temperatures will be dropping into the negatives these long dark nights.
A cracked block isn't fun to wake up to!
Open up the expansion tank cap (or coolant reservoir) and look for a pink, blue or green liquid depending on the brand of antifreeze it has. If it's brown or rusty, have the coolant changed as soon as possible. Make sure the level is correct as indicated on the tank or dipstick and using a coolant tester (from a local automotive store, like Halfords), check the ratio of water to antifreeze.
Your local garage will also be able to check the antifreeze ratio and levels for you, if you'd like a little more reassurance in the matter.
Or, for the unscientific, drain a load of water from the expansion tank and refill it with neat antifreeze and run the engine for a bit to mix it up
