Hi

I built a HTPC around this board at the weekend (specs below), but seem to be suffering from a LOT of stability issues - anyone else with this board running vista & having issues?

I also couldn't get the latest BIOS (m612a12) to work - kept failing with CRC Checksum error on first boot, then shut down the machine before POST on subsequent boots. The previous version (m612a11) works OK though.

All latest drivers, stock speeds. Temps are fine, around 35C at idle. (It's not my first build , just my first Vista build  )

Thanks for any help...

In the space of a couple of days, I've had:

  • 8+ or so blue screens
  • Lots of messages from windows like "generic host process has stopped working"
  • various lockups
  • crashes on resuming from sleep
  • Media centre telling me there'd been an "Audio Error" after returning from sleep - I guess the onboard audio isn't waking up from an S3 sleep?

At the initial install I had to use driver cleaner pro (props to the author) to even get the video drivers on successfully. I swear by that program.

Was yours OK?
May be worth a wipe & reinstall?
Does the m612a12 BIOS work OK for you? (I was flashing from a bare DOS USB key boot using awflash & runme.bat)

Cheers

I was using bios 11 when I was running vista. I didn't get any blue screens or loss of audio.

If your having flashing the bios then use a floppy drive it maybe more successful.

I don't *think* it was the USB that was causing the BIOS problem as 11 was OK. It would be interesting to see if you had the same problems. If you do try it, here's the exact procedure, what went wrong for me & how I recovered:

Flash BIOS 12 - Reboot
(Also tried clearing CMOS at this point)
"CMOS Checksum error, defaults loaded" F1 to continue
Reboot
Machine shuts down during POST

Clear CMOS
Reboot from USB key & Flash 11, clear CMOS
Reboot
All OK.

The vista crashes are all under BIOS 11 though...

Ahh... I just checked the abit forums.

The latest BETA bios (M612A_12.B01.zip 13/4/07) posted here http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=122393 is later than the m612a12.zip (4/4/07) from the Abit BIOS page for this board...

So that probably explains the BIOS shutdown issues, maybee the resume issues, & possibly some of the crash issues. I think I'll wait till they hit v13 beta1 and grab 12.

Release BIOS M612A_12.B01: The bios is Beta stage.
1. Fixing "Onboard LAN Controller" failure
2. Added the multiplier function
3. Fixing "AC Power Loss" failure
4. Fixing "FAN Failed shutdown" failure

5. Added "FAN Fail Alarm Selectable" item
6. Removed CPU L3 Cache item
7. Fixing IRQ sharing issue
8. Fixing S3 resume issue
