Hello all,

I will get straight to the point, i have spent the past 2 weeks trying to fault a computer system with the following specs.

OS: Win7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
Mobo: Abit IP35 Pro with BIOS Ver. Pheonix - AwardBIOD v6.00PG
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz, ~3,3GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM

Network adapter: Belkin F5D8055 Wireless N+ USB Adapter

The problem i have with this system setup, is that i can install and use the Belkin wireless USB adapter in Win7, with no problems. However when i shutdown the computer and leave it for several minutes, then power it up again, the Belkin wireless USB adapter does not get powered by the USB internal voltage supply (i would assume its 5V).

The work around atm, is that i have to unplug and then re-plug the Belkin wireless USB adapter in, after windows has loaded the user login screen, which triggers the device to turn on and be recognized and installed automatically by Win7.

Ideally what i would like is to;

A. Know why the Abit IP35 Pro mobo USB power, is not powering my Belkin wireless USB adapter on Win7 start up.

or

B. Have one of you helpful folks post a solution to this issue.

Any help is much appreciated.

this isn't the abit BIOS version, it's the base Award BIOS that abit build on.
would be useful to know which abit version it is (either by date or no.)

I admit that I haven't tried with Win7 (but afaik it should be OS agnostic) but if you are performing a soft shutdown down via Windows (rather than a hard off) the USB ports should remain live (to allow for wake on by kb/mouse etc.) whilst the system is "off"

Actually i always power down my PC by using the power button...

If that is it then i will start using the windows shutdown instead >.>

After Several minutes of the PC being shutdown via the Win7 start menu shutdown option, i powered up the machine and the same problem is there.

Now to answer your questions one by one;

BIOS Version/Date (given in msinfo32) is "Pheonix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 06/09/2009"
SMBIOS Version 2.5

I have a USB mouse which i don't use in DOS or BIOS, my kb is old style PS/2 connector. Not actually tried to wake up my PC via USB, will update this post after i have done so.
_________

Just went through the following procedure

-Start menu
--Sleep Mode
---Wait several minutes

-USB Mouse Left Click Button once
--Machine starts up
---BIOS Screen, then Win7 start up logo, then straight into Win7 desktop without logging in
----Belkin Wireless USB Adapter remains un-powered ;/

Problem still persists unfortunately.

To update this further with more information, i have just cleaned the PC fully, which meant i had to remove all USB leads, DVI leads, AC power leads, Mic and Line Leads to speakers.

The system was without power for at least 10minutes while i used compressed CO2 to get rid of dust built up inside the case.

I re-plugged in the leads and powered up as normal and noticed the Belkin Wireless USB adapter was powered and working as normal.

yup, sounds like the problem is with the Belkin rather than the IP35 Pro.
Most modern mobos maintain 5VSB power whilst in "soft off" so you may well have the same problem even if you switch mobos.

Btw shutting down your PC by simply pressing the power button & not allowing Windows to shutdown first isn't good practice.

That is assuming the power button isn't set to do a soft shutdown. I'm pretty sure this is a bios setting somewhere, but don't have the time to check.

Mine is set like this and pressing it simply invokes the shutdown procedure as if I had went through the Start>Shutdown route in Windows.

yeah as above shuting down form power button isnt always bad!

i also have a ip35 pro and the lastest bios from the abit website helped me. i was having all sorts of problems with drivers not working and high cpu temps, after using new bios these problems have dissapered

drivers shouldn't be affected & I assume that you are using a later (EO?) CPU than your original BIOS date?

Oh i thought you might have meant the holding down of the ATX Case power button for several seconds (Antec 900 case) BIOS is set to instant power off when this happens, which instantly turns off the system. I don't do that unless windows itself has either blue screened, or frozen.

Normally what i do is shutdown the PC by quickly pressing the ATX case power button, so Windows 7 initiates a normal shutdown procedure and closes all programs for me automatically prior to shutting down.

With regard to my Belkin Wireless USB adapter, the problem still remains and i still have to power up my PC, get to the login screen then unplug and re-plug-in the USB adapter for it to power up and install. I have to do this every time.

Anybody know of a Wireless 'N Standard' PCI network card sold on Overclockers that actually works with Windows 7 and the IP35 Pro?

that's weird. if the BIOS is set to instant off for the power button it should do just that - there shouldn't be power to allow Windows to shutdown.
Although your description isn't entirely clear "holding down of the ATX Case power button for several seconds (Antec 900 case) BIOS is set to instant power off when this happens" could be read/understood as suggestng that you have the BIOS power button function setting set to the 4 second delay option?

Yeah, you're right. It's actually a Windows setting under Power Options>Advanced.

Ahh yes, on the power topic, i have windows 7 which is setup for performance, within power>advanced settings, also the Power buttons and lid > Power button action > Setting: Shutdown.

This explains why my windows shutdowns normally when i press my ATX case power button once.

BIOS takes over control of all power functions when the power button is held for several seconds, normally i only use that when windows has crashed/frozen or blue screened).

Still on the topic of my wireless network adapter, anybody here got a wireless adapter card they can recommend for a IP35 Pro mobo?
