Abit IP35 Pro IDE DVD drive runs PIO mode only

If I try and use my DVD drive connected to the JMicron JMB36X IDE interface it will only connect in PIO mode. This leads to horrendous performance when I use it that tends to lag the whole system.

I've tried various JMicron drivers and edited registry settings to reset the detected device capabilities of IDE devices and it has made no difference.

Does anyone else have any problems using optical drives on the IDE channel of this motherboard?

I got shut of that JMicron driver from mine, it did nothing but give me blue screens. No sooner I removed it the BSOD's ceased.

Not thought of trying the in-built Microsoft one. Next time I reboot I'll try removing the JMicron driver.

Hmm...there isn't a built-in driver that supports this controller under XP. Did you disable the card? If you found another driver can you let me know where you got it?
