Well currently with Newnet and have had very little problems with them over the past year. The thing is though the 12gb monthly usage is hard not to go over.

Plusnet offer a premium with 80gb usage, this would suit me down to the ground.

I play TF2 about 2/3 times a week, mainly just browse the web and download from graboid. I will be getting a ps3 soon so would be playing online through that more.

Would this package be fine for my use??

Thanks

I definately considered plusnet as an ISP but if they are not having a speed issue, its pings being affected and vice versa. I'd look elsewhere first. More so at LLU.

I can't get LLU in my area unfortunately. looking on there website it seems their traffic shaping shouldn't affect gaming, however does with the download speeds which isn't a big issue.

They say that but there is a tonne of threads on their forum with ping issues. I'd list what you need per month and what you are willing to pay and people can assist you from there.

I have plusnet pro...been with them for 4 months.....guarenteed low pings for gaming and prioritised lines.......I have not lost connection like i used to with tiscali but i have lost download speed....i have a 2 meg connection and with tiscali i got the 2 meg speed but with plusnet i only now get 1.25 meg...after 2 months of trying to find out why my line was now slower they said because it was to guarentee i had a reliable connection for my gaming....i have a 20 gb download limit as well but its not an issue for me as i dont download much...and if i do any i try to do it after midnight....cos its free.

What is the reason for that?

Never had any problems with pings and before they brought these new rules in i was quit content.
But after the new systems arrived it was a different story !

random disconnections and the download limits got to be a pain
supposedly gaming traffic isnt effected even if you go over the DL limits but in practice that's BS

every month i went over the limit by about a gig or so just before it was reset
then my gaming went to crap

game and TS disconnects , really got me mad especially as the customer service refused to accept that there shouldn't be any problems even after quoting them there own FAQ's

Also there sql servers are garbage :D

I can't comment on what they have been like since BT bought them, but prior to that the Internet was the Wild West, and Plusnet were the obligatory cowboys.

BT own plusnet?
hmmmm
was looking at them. what is it with ISPs atm?
look at Enta net, no good
Look at plusnet, no good
where to go?!?!

I would recommend AAISP for ipstream based products but if your home during the day then they may not be suitable. The others that spring to mind are IDNet and Zen

So you were having problems AFTER you went over your download limit?

Goes without saying doesn't it? I can't even connect once I go over my limit....

Haven't been on plusnet in a long while, all I can say is that once they got bought by BT they went considerably downhill. I only really played Wow and CS at the time, but pings where appalling.

Still torn about what to do!

So many mixed reviews about these, it seems the same with every provider...think I may just click buy and see what happens!

Just worried about a ping of 100+ on gaming :(

the contract will be 12 months, now I will be looking to move out in 6 months so will be up to my parents to pay the remainder, however all they do is browse so things like pings are not much of an issue.

Currently get 8mb out of my line, always been able to get the max no matter who I have been with - Tiscali, Nildram, UKFSN, Newnet.

Basically trying to cut back as much as possible, if i go with Plusnet and with my new phone contract I could save up to £30 a month.

I was with plusnet and for gaming they were always good, although if you read through the traffic shaping blurb you will see that gaming traffic is restricted to 2meg and I think some games these days struggle with this. Apart from that the package I was on (and most the others) had such aggressive traffic throttling in the evening I'd had enough and left, I don't DL much but when I do I want it to come down faster than 64kbs!
Im with adsl24 now, the service in the evening is much better, although I am now swapping over to their new LLU with C&W.

I am on Plusnet prem and I cannot play my PS3 online, moved me to Pro for two weeks and no issue, but moved me back to Prem and I cant use it again.

The 2mb limit had gone btw.

I was over at my mums last week who had plusnet. I had to download a few things which happily came in at 800+ KB/s. Not sure about pings but they dont seem to be as bad as they used to be.
