About to hit 'buy', Crucial C300 64gb or Vertex 2E 60gb?

Dont bench on this SSD with CDM or AS SSD unless you change the settings to use compressable data. Wish I had read the OCZ forums before I did numerous tests as with uncompressable data your speeds will seem lower than what you're expecting if you do use CDM or AS SSD to bench. OCZ use Atto as their bench tool.

You'll need to ensure AHCI is enabled in windows and then in BIOS. If you have an Intel chipset mobo make sure you download and install the newest RST drivers too.

Enjoy the SSD. Just completed a new build myself with my first ever SSD and its amazingly fast compared to my old setup.

Thanks for the tips, I read about using Atto to bench rather than CDM :) I'm going to be doing a fresh install too.

Just waiting for it to arrive now (along with a Corsair H50) :D

well ive just ordered the OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB,now im going to do a fresh install so its turn IDE to AHCI and also use sata 1 for this drive am i correct on that cheers,p.s is it right you have to say leave at least 10% of the drive empty for better performance

I've got one of each now. Planning to get a SATA-3 card for my main PC so have just swapped an old 36GB Raptor for a C300 and replaced the 120GB 5400rpm HDD in my HTPC with a Vertex 2E 60GB. Haven't really caned either of them yet so not sure of any difference in performance but the HTPC sees most benefit as it boots from cold every day.

Well it arrived yesterday, and WOW, I'm blown away. Windows was installed in a matter of minutes, I couldn't believe it. Windows boots obscenely quickly, apps open instantly and new apps install stupidly quickly.

In all my time using computers this is the single best upgrade I've ever made. Awesome

Drexel - do you mind saying how much you paid for it?

Looking to get one myself but just hovering over the buy button... unsure if it's particularly worth it for a few seconds of loading saved!

So I've received a C300; going into a P6TD M/b, which has SATA 3.0

There are 6 SATA ports - does it matter which of the 6 you use ie is there any benefit to putting your boot disk in port 1?

Don't have a bracket yet to fit it in my case (ordered one as per advice in a separate thread). Take it there is no issue with sitting it in an empty drive bay in my Antec 1200 (mid bay has nothing in it) on top of some insulating material until the bracket arrives ?

I've bought it to primarily play FFXIV. Are there any issues with installing a game on the drive initially then later on adding an OS to the SSD making it the boot disk ?

Thanks

No issues at all.

Thanks mate, appreciate the advice.

Also, presume you format it in the same way you format a HDD ?

Yeah it is treated in the same way for formatting and installing things. Should be no issues with installing a game and then installing an OS later (although the OS may need to reformat the drive).

Ah you guys saying the Vertex 2E drive is better than the Crucial C300? I assumed that the higher read speeds would be better for loading the os and in games.

They are..but, and its a big but, if you run both drives on SATA2, then the read speeds are pretty much identical, so you get more value for money so to speak, if you get the 2E.
