About to hit 'buy', Crucial C300 64gb or Vertex 2E 60gb?

And sata 3 raid is pants at the moment so only go for a single drive even if you have sata 3.

Also in real life there is little difference in load performance. one second load time for crysis between the two drives but obviously both are ages ahead of any non ssd harddrive.

So to keep it simple:

If you have sata 3 and want one ssd - buy the crucial
If you only have sata 2 - buy the vertex
If you have sata 3 and plan to buy two drives to run in raid 0, don;t bother with running either crucial or vertex on sata 3 raid. Two vertex's on sata 2 will be quicker than 2 crucials on sata 3. At least on the Asus Marvel sata 3 raid controller. I can't pass comment on other chipset controllers (if they exist yet) and it may improve with new drivers.

more than happy to put up an atto screenie, from memory my read was 250-260mb and ahci benhies are 270-280. write speed was similiar about 20mb or so slower. Im not denying ahci can be slightly faster, Just not as much of a difference as some make it out to be.

You obviously aren't reading the benchmarks properly

no need to be condescending just because of one comment I make.:)

will post a screenie when I get home for you.

I'm not trying to be condescending, ATTO won't show the difference between AHCI and IDE since it only shows sequential real/write. You need to see the read/writes of files with queue depths greater than 1, which AS SSD will show.

Here's an example from the AS SSD benchmark thread

IDE

AHCI

Hardly a small difference.

Installed a C300 on a P6T-D in SATA port 1.

Tried to install with AHCI enabled in the BIOS, but had problems (had another HD in the mahcine with an OS on, but I don't see why this would cause an issue ?).

End result is that I installed it with SATA = IDE.

How do I change it to AHCI now it's installed, please ? Think I read it takes a registry setting as well as a change in the BIOS ?

Thanks

I know why this is, I've been looking into the P6X58D SATA3 implementation and basically the Marvell controller only has 5Gb/s of bandwidth, which is 1Gb/s short of the advertised 6Gb/s. When you have two drives the 500Gb/s is shared between them, so instead of each drive having 6Gb/s they only have 2.5Gb/s.

All the current SATA3 boards are pretty much the same we won't get a fully fledged SATA3 implementation until the next gen.
