Absolutely furious with ASUS for supplying the wrong SATA cables.

Just putting my new build together and found out that all of the supplied SATA cables with the P6TD motherboard are SATA-II type and will not fit in the 4-port module at 90 degrees to the board (the ones you have to use with a big graphics card installed).

Turns out asus put the wrong module on the board - the older narrower type and it's a bad batch.

Before you say anything I know exactly what I'm doing. Has anyone else suffered this fate? plenty on the ASUS forum have and only with this board.

Do you think OCUK would be kind enough to send me some free cables? I don't want to shell out 20 quid on SATA cables!!

EVGA did similiar with some of the nForce 7 series lines... I had enough different spare cables about from other builds tho.

I just sold all my spare SATA cables so I was relying on the bundled cables. shame, cus they're nice black ones :(. I hope OCUK don't let me down when I call tomorrow.

I'm a bit confused. Aren't sata 2 cables exactly the same as sata 1, and shouldn't the 90 degree bit be on the hard drive end of the cable?

I've probably got suitable ones if ocuk don't ship you any, they're all red though I'm afraid.

Could always contact Asus directly, I hear from their rep that they're excellent at customer service these days

the 90 degree ports don't have a cut out to fit the clips on the sata II cables supplied. I need six 45cm cables with one end angled, so it would cost me nearly 30 quid to solve this problem.

I will try contacting ASUS but the process will take a while no doubt.

As above the new SATA II cables have a little metal clip to keep them in the socket - older style sockets don't have space for this... I did manage to force them in tho on my EVGA 750i :D but I doubt they will ever come out without ripping the socket off.

yeah, forcing isn't an option for me as most on the asus forum who have tried it have cracked the ports.

what i did when i had this problem i just broke off the clip and i just trimmed off any plastic sticking proud of the surface!

Aesthetics are very important to me so bodging isn't an option.
if this is not a option speak to asus or overclockers to get you some new ones!
ps if you carefully trim them you wont see it!
