Is this the best netbook for under £200?

Seems like a bargain to me, I don't want to spend £300 otherwise I'd just buy a full size laptop!

I've bought from OcUK many, many times, but a competitor has little machine at around £180 delivered which to me seems like a no-brainer.

Ok that didn't go too well.

So, how about I throw this in to the mix.

For an extra £40 you can get an MSi wind which I believe uses the new lower powered CPU, would that be a better purchase?

AND in addition there's for not much more an Acer One 751 which has a 1366 x 768 screen, the higher res would help me. I take it the Z processor it comes with is lower power but slower?

I just noticed that the Acer accepts a SIM card for mobile www, that's a positive.

The D250? I've just held it up and looked all round and can't see where it goes, but I'm typing in the dark so I might be being stupid.

I've got sod all experience of netbooks and laptops - I just wanted something cheap that I could use to jump on forums etc in the living room, and so the missus can facebook. To that end I can't fault it. Running XP (which I prefer) and doing the job admirably.

It's supposedly behind the battery, a SIM slot, could you take a look for me?

No mention there of a SIM slot, unless I'm being blind.

In which case I'm leaning towards it's bigger brother, the 11" 751h because it does have a SIM slot and a more useable screen resolution.

The CPU runs at a lower speed but I'm assuming this is to conserve power because of the bigger screen. No problem really as with a trimmed down version of XP and 2GB of ram it'll be fine.

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered a 2GB 751h with 9 hours (6 cell) battery, it cost £249.99 which I thought was good money considering the upgrades (memory and battery).

The only problem is it comes with Vista Home... might wipe that and throw XP on it!

Good good, let us know how you get on with it.

I think I'd be inclined to bin Vista too, but I've stayed with XP for years - when I upgrade my desktop I'll stick Win7 on there, but the netbook will be staying on XP I reckon.

Well so far so good, it actual performs very well with Vista now I've removed all the 'free crap' that comes pre-installed. The extra ram (2GB) must help.

I'll take some pics later, very attractive device indeed.

Well now that I've stripped back all the crap that comes with Vista and pre-installed OS, stopped lots of unwanted services, disabled them and deleted everything from startup it's running like silk. I might even revert to classic menus to make it perfect... bloody Vista!

Anyway, the screen is perfect - I'm so glad I opted for 11" over 10!

It'd be too easy to make a crack about how much difference the extra inch makes...

...oops.

Glad you're happy with it. I have to admit I could see the benefit of the bigger screen size.
