ACER Monitors - my warranty hell and why you should NOT buy one

that is appalling fella, and tbh it's not a problem I will ever have, I wouldn't buy an Acer either.

Great to see Gibbo stepping in, yet another example of why I spend at OcUK, service is unmatched. Quite frankly most are still eating Bananas.

Hope you get it sorted soon Varkanoid.

I'm looking at a superwide myself, but there is no way I can commit to them right now, frankly for the money they are a joke quality wise sadly.

Hopefully OcUK can assure us that since ACER new screens are getting released soon witch are £700 and is considered
expensive than any issues with those screens, we the user can send them back, RMA them to OcUK for replacement or
at least a refund instead of having to deal with ACER directly considering their very poor warranty service.

If not then many people won't buy these screens in fear of getting a faulty one or their screen going faulty not so long
after they have got it and been told ACER deals with the warranty and so you must contact them for repair, replacement
or refund of the screen.

That's not really fair for them either, the profit will be drained very quickly with the amount coming back and it will simply be easier to stop stocking them if they were looking that bad all the time.

Besides, all brands seem to be having quality issues with certain high quality models, I would never ever of thought spending £500+ on a monitor would result in issue like these.

It's so bad that I am not changing my screen right now, everything I look at has one issue or another, wouldn't mind if I wanted to spend £200.

I have never seen so many higher end screens in clearance line section these days.

shall stick with Dell, never had a problem with their CS you certainly do seem to get what you pay for especially with monitors

Sorry to hear your experience with Acer has been so bad. It's a shame as I'm personally happy that they're about to release what's seemingly the best gaming monitor in the XB270HU. Providing bad customer service and leaving disgruntled customers in your wake is no way way to go about obtaining brand loyalty. Hope you get your issue sorted.

The worst monitor I've ever had was an Acer GD245HQ. It was one of the first 120Hz 1080P monitors. The build quality was atrocious. Washed out TN panel, backlight bleed, paint overspray on the orange stand and an annoying buzz when you switched it to 120Hz! Hasten to say it didn't last long, couple of months I think.

Wouldn't touch another Acer product with a barge pole, cheap tat...

I will be sticking with my Dell

After reading your horror story I was considering the B326HK 32”.Definitely NOT now. I will be sticking with my Dell

Hope this all works out for you;)

This is a bit worrying as I have one of these monitors and part of the reason I purchased it was because it was listed as having ON-SITE warranty on the OCuk site.

Onsite warranty means swap out with identical model.

If you had to send the monitor away then this is not an onsite warranty. The whole point of an on-site warranty is you not being without the monitor for any length of time.

Gibbo is this warranty not on-site?

Damn, this makes me a bit worrisome considering the upcoming XR341CK sounds so promising..

I highly doubt that panel / controller combo is exclusive to them. So you should expect to see very similar offerings from other companies sooner to the time of availability.

Acer have been quick to announce quite a few SKUs, whilst others have waited until they're closer to bringing their products to market.

Lets hope the other companies dont use the same third party repair company. Just been on their website and unfortunately they dont list all their customers but I notice they listed Panasonic and Acer. One thing I forgot to add in my OP was that when they did the first repair they had actually used the wrong tool to open up the monitor and damaged the casing prising it open!

I think one of my main concerns was zero communication from Acer over the progress of my repair and that they themselves didn't seem to know what was going on. Apart from the initial return instructions I never got an email or telephone call. Still haven't.

One of the worst things for me was seeing my monitor winging its way from Manchester to Tuxford knowing full well I can not do anything about it ! With Acer going "oh you need to wait till the end of the day to find out if its delivered to an incorrect address, according to us its going to Wakefield". Yeah right pappaboomheads!

RIP XB280HK (Nov 2014 [manufactured date] to 05/03/2015)
