Acer Netbook HDD died - where to get Win 7 starter?

Hi folks,

THe missus' netbook croaked and the HDD is dead. Got a new 2.5" SATA no problem and its installed - problem is there was no CD with the machine, obviously due to no drive being in it. That also being the case no backup of the restore files on the PC itself was done by her since ... she couldnt write a CD backup...

Where can I get a hold of Win 7 starter so I can reload it on the PC using the serial number on the sticker underneath? Ive tried emailing Acer but not heard anything back.

Hi Rikki,

Download an ISO from here!

You'll need to modify it with "eicfg_removal_utility.zip" found on this page.

Then create a USB bootable device - instructions here!

Should work - but not sure about Starter Edition.

Thanks for the reply though Im not sure that her starter edition product key will work with anything else.

I'll give it a shot tonight though.

The eicfg removal utility will turn the ISO you download to a universal disk which means you can install any edition (as long as you have the correct key).
