Acer Power M8 motherboard and CPU upgrade

Can't see why it would be as you have not updated/tried to update the BIOS, or have you and I missed that?

I would think that your problem is much more likely to be an incorrect setting in the BIOS...

Oh and the manual didn't shed much light as the available options may be different, therefore I really need to see your available screens mate

Oh btw I am still researching this for you, bear with me :)

EDIT - I see you're doing the same, noticed your posts on other forums including bios-mods, which I think is the one you will have most success with tbh :)

I read it, but I didn't think you'd tried the BIOS update yet, which is what he did, then he stopped half way through the update which was always going to brick it. That's a well known side effect of a BIOS update gone wrong.

Can you post the pics of your BIOS yet, or even list the main options you have?

I'll post pics tonight when I get home from work. I tried a BIOS update using the official Acer one and it said the motherboard had a hardware lock so I couldn't do it. I didn't cancel it half way through or anything and the OC worked fine after that anyway.

So long as you didn't cancel it, then I cannot see how the board would be bricked. It is likely to be something else.

I take it the board in your machine looks exactly like the one I linked to before? Just want to be certain we are looking for the correct thing.

EDIT - is the image in your for sale thread the board in your M8? If so, then it's not the Foxconn board, and is probably the ECS board, and appears to be identical to that in the T180...

Aspire T180 motherboard

Looks identical to the one in your for sale thread, is it?

Hmm, so need to trace that exact board now, but I cannot see how the T180 BIOS wouldn't work as it's the same board surely.

Anyway, I need to know the options you have to be certain they are properly setup

Okay no worries, it would appear to be the ECS board according to the images in this search...

ECS MCP61SM-AM

Problem is that the ECS site is slow as hell, it's been loading for 5 minutes and only just opened now

Here are the screenshots and a picture of what looks like the model number of the motherboard:

Hope this helps, would be great to get this PC up and running again. The images are in order in relation to the menu options, but you need to go from bottom to top.

No worries, looks like a typical OEM crippled BIOS to stop you meddling with it. Unfortunately it also limits what you can do when things go wrong :(

I'll get a proper look later on and see if I can work something out from it. Are you back on the stock CPU or still trying the 5200?

Ok, can you go to PnP/PCI Configurations and change Reset Configuration Data to 'Enabled' please then Save and Exit. Post up your results
