I am doing a project on a robotic hand, and it says it uses Acetyl as a material... I have been trying to research this, but all I keep coming up with is chemicals - does anyone know what it is?

Thanks in advance :)

that is particularly vague - an acetyl group is CH3C=O but it has to be attached to something.
Saying acetyl on its own makes no sense - it must be a tradename for something.

seems likely that it would just be an acetyl based plastic that has been moulded with. Only explanation for its random use in the materials.

looks like it - it doesn't seem critical so you could any suitable plastic.

as for what the plastic actually is - it could any of tens of thousands of different polymers from that descrption!

Muffs...

The wheels are on a split axle so they need to be joined by a bit of plastic tubing called a muff. The gears are mounted on one which has been turned to leave a lip seperating the two. Both worms and muffs in that picture are made from acetal.

Acetal is similar to delrin which is similar to nylon iirc

Read as hardish plastic that you can carve, machine etc.

Edit: Danger P just noticed it's your post, hello matey, how's things at uni?
