Activision Allows COD: Black Ops Dedicated Servers but There’s a Catch

Anyone that actually cares won't be playing the COD series any more. Let them get on with it. Who cares. Just don't give them your money.

I've completely lost interest in the series. There are much more exciting and new titles coming out that I'll be playing. Leave COD to the casual console gamer

That could just mean that the consoles sold so many more of the overall copies, I'm sure the actual figure for MW2 sales on PC is hardly going to be low.

http://www.videogamer.com/news/modern_warfare_2_tops_20_million_sales.html

This only mentions success in the console market, and as it's the overall figure, I don't know how many sales occured specifically in the UK.

Edit: http://www.videogamer.com/news/modern_warfare_2_sells_4_7_million_day_one_in_us_and_uk.html

This says 1.23 million in day one of UK sales. Taking the 3% figure, that's 36,900 on PC. Not exactly spectacular considering this is a 7 year old franchise we're talking about here.

Bit anoyed about the 18 max limit for ranked games :/ I don't really care about mods personally, I just wanted a descent server to play on, and get a choice in the maps I was playing and the mode (server size aswell).

It really is getting to be a p*** take.

means no mods....

wonder why halflife engine was so popular with the gaming community, wonder why valve got so succesful , wonder why valve welcomes modders , wonder why steam is so succesful.

wonder why activsion will one day die a horrible glorious death

no it doesnt  like multiplay server for eg they have the mods already uploaded or like that its already been said there will be mod support for the game ;)

link to what is deffo in the game http://callofduty.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=270441

mod support for single player maybe....

why have someone control all the servers ? so they can control what is on them? even the artical says this...

bet they just want to stop usermade maps so they can sell there own dlc

Why are they soo against normal, open dedi server support?

Well according to their past press releases, MW2 (and the cods after it) where designed for the "thousands" of people who emailed in who found dedicated servers "confusing" and that the communities where "unfriendly" and they didn't like them.

They're going after the average frat boy who finds reading, especially rules, difficult so they want to make every server the same basically.

Because activision will get a much bigger cut of the proffits.

A deal of "everyone who wants to run a server can as long as we get 10% of rental fee etc" will net them so much but "We'll give you exclusive right as long as you give us 30% of rental price" will get them much more.

Another Activision game I'll download. lol. They're good at making games that are just about worth playing but never worth paying for.

Awesome! :D

So just because you don't think it's worth paying for makes it okay to steal? Activision are the *********, not Infinity Ward and not Treyarch, so it's nice to know you don't think you have to pay for something that the developers of the game have actually gotten up and gone to work every day to produce. Activision are the bad guys in this, not that it matters because look how great the boycott of MW2 went, on these very forums people who said they won't be buying the game ended up buying it on release day, the same people will say the same things and just end up doing the same thing yet again. For what it's worth I didn't think Modern Warfare 2 was a bad game. It didn't really add anything to the series and in regards to dedicated servers it took away, but at least they are coming back in one form or another and we can finally ditch the P2P.

If they want to shovel DLC to us (which it appears to be the case due to the route they are taking) I really hope its not like the MW2 DLC in terms of what you get for your money. 5 maps for £11 is very expensive, considering in BF2 for example, you'd get a new map per patch which was completely free lol.

I'm one of the few that does actually enjoy MW2 but it turns out to be a very expensive game with the DLC added to what is already a pricey game anyway. Dedicated servers is the way forward but expensive DLC will really damage the PC gaming market unless the price of the games comes down sharply to counter act it.

MW2 has cost me and my dad £53 each just to enjoy the multiplayer, which even though it can be fun, is massively flawed due to being rife with cheaters and no dedicated server support. Pretty annoying really!

I don't think pirating software is in the same league as stealing. I'm not depriving anyone of anything. If the option of pirating Black Ops wasn't there then I certainly wouldn't go out and buy the game. Incidentally I've made quite a few purchases based on my impression of a game after pirating it. If it's pants then I delete it. If it's good then I'll buy it. There's the odd few (like a few recent Activision releases) that aren't bad but the behaviour of parties involved makes handing over money a little difficult.

While I don't share your viewpoint I will still respect it.

thats not really a respectable viewpoint though is it?

if u dont think its worth it, dont get it. i mean he is trying to take the moral highground, but i dont back his stance.

Well that's rubbish anyway, as steam stats was showing more players soon after launch
