Sorry no testings at lower resolution below 2560 x 1440 or low/medium setting. There are plenty of others who have shared there findings with the lower settings and lower resolutions

Test are to see if there is a difference when gaming at ultra settings with high resolution 2560 x 1440.

I have tested various combination of DDR4 Ram on Ryzen+ before in past six months.Always about the same results.

Today I tested a GTX 1080TI gaming at 2560 x 1440 Ultra/Max setting.

If gaming at higher resolutions and you need to know does the ram make a big difference.I would say no need to waste cash on new ram.

First of all, well done for this, I just read the post and haven't watch the video (yet).

Couple questions:

Why does the Battlefield V test @ 3466Mhz CL14 show a drop in 0.1% Lows like that?
(A 27% drop in 0.1% Lows on the 3466Mhz test compared to the 2667Mhz test?)
(And a 41% drop in 0.1% Lows on the 3466Mhz test compared to the 3400Mhz test?)

Also, sticking with Battlefield V, why would you say that it is not worth it, when BFV is showing an increase of ~5% in AVG FPS when comparing the 2667Mhz AVG FPS versus the 3466Mhz AVG FPS?

(An increase which grows even further in AC: Odyssey, from 57 AVG FPS -> 61 FPS [which is an increase 7% in AVG FPS and 13% increase in 1% Lows).

I know it isn't amazing, but it is still increase (and sometimes double-digit).

And that is purely games, what about rendering workloads like Blender or Video Editing Applications, they would probably show similar increases or potentially higer, no?

Just curious, that's all. :)

And of course, if you already own a 2667Mhz kit, no point buying a brand new one.

But what if you don't own one yet, what is the difference in price comparing a 2667Mhz kit VS a 3466Mhz kit?

Also, was that AMD2600X overclocked or left stock? And maybe I am completely wrong about this, but maybe the stats would've changed with a higher all-core OC on the CPU?

When looking at this you have to be careful to check for your actual usage and be aware of any potential bottlenecks. For example running at 3.7ghz is a bottleneck for me but not one that noticeably impacts gaming etc.

BF1 and BFV are well optimised for multicore gaming and not affected much by memory speed, other games and applications running on Ryzen are.

The initial testing on gen 1 ryzens was based on early bios which had issues. In many cases the jump from 2133 to 3200 gives significant improvements but from 2666 to 3200 not so much.

So monitoring software can screw up some stuff,but the numbers are real close that you would not and can not notice 5/6 FPS difference in a game.

So some single channel memory you can just ignore.

I agree entirely with the conclusion of "no point buying faster RAM if your already own RAM of lower frequency".

But you must admit that a 5-6 FPS difference when dealing with 100 FPS averages is only 5%; but at higher resolutions, where the the FPS averages are closer to 50-60, this becomes a 10% framerate difference.

10% is nothing to sniff at, it isn't mindblowing either, but it is a noticeable difference nevertheless?

Having faster more expensive B-Die ram ,yes is faster but is it worth the extra cost. Not for me to decide. I do know what I would pick on next Ryzen build.

I would have to buy a capture card to test separately for the lows to get the most complete picture.

Sure dude, no probs, I did commend you for doing it in the first place.

It, just, should be expected that on an overclockers forum that (speaking for myself) I would want to dig in to the numbers some more.

It is a solid comparison and a good job all round - we just have differentiating conclusions. That's all.

strange, i watched a video on youtube where the ram speeds made a much bigger difference than it does on your testing!

Well I am not trying to get views or selling anything I can tell you that,just showing testing I did and for me it is what it is.

As a layman I could probably spend ages analysing this frame alone. I note 49 vs 59 vs 34 fps in the 0.1% low categories.

These RAM benchmarks are a headache, and I've noted that watching other videos where higher performance RAM somehow dips below lower performance RAM in some categories, and it all just starts getting very anomalous.

Well each frame will not be exact.Do not get to worked up about it.In my opinion the extra cost for faster ram is not really worth it.

I taken all the videos and lined them up best I could (probably within .5 sec difference in videos) none can get the exact frame for each video unless you have very expensive software to look at each frame.

Also while running the benchmarks things such as third partying monitoring software has an effect on the numbers.
So in general overall numbers should give a idea and how it is working but it is not 100% perfect.

I agree, definitely looks like overall averages are what is to be scrutinized. Cheers for the good work, and I shall feel slightly more reassured going for my pretty decent RAM versus the mega high performance options for much more money.

Many thanks to the OP. I did a fair bit of research into the very same subject.

I would rather buy cheaper ram saving like £200 and using that £200 towards a higher end GPU where you would definitely notice more of a difference.

Im no expert in the matter, I was just comparing 2 different tests I saw, the youtube video which apparently was pretty inaccurate and confused viewers (like me)

Oh hey no problem at all,I am no expert either but I do see a lot of misleading videos and when I went looking for an answer for gaming with higher resolutions all the videos I seen did not make sense to me.
So I am just showing my own test with higher resolutions when gaming.
