Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor has been hit with two charges by the Football Association after his side's 4-2 win over former club Arsenal.
The 25-year-old striker is charged with violent conduct relating to his alleged stamp on Robin van Persie and has until 1800 BST on Wednesday to respond.
He also faces a charge of improper conduct for his goal celebration in front of the Arsenal supporters.

A separate date will be arranged for a commission to consider the latter.
The FA has also asked Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and the two clubs to identify supporters involved in any violent and aggravating behaviour.
English football's governing body said in a statement that it "would like to see anyone found guilty of such behaviour face action through the legal system and banning orders from football."

If Adebayor is found guilty for his challenge on Van Persie, under the FA's new fast-track disciplinary system he would be handed a three-match ban which would result in him missing Sunday's derby against Manchester United.
The £25m summer signing from Arsenal escaped punishment from referee Mark Clattenburg following his tangle with the Dutchman.

Police have also received a complaint over the behaviour of Van Persie, who is alleged to have celebrated his 62nd-minute goal in front of home fans at Eastlands and mouthed a swear word towards the City supporters.
GMP say they will speak to the supporter who has made the complaint and will then decide whether or not to investigate.

I would much rather he didn't get banned, and hope Vidic happens to like RvP :p

Would be much more enjoyable to watch.

Will be interesting to see how much of a ban he will get...hopefully the maximum they can hand out.

Also hoping that this shows Adebayor that such behaviour is unacceptable and he should do a bit of growing up during his ban:).

Gah, I don't really care anymore, I mean he should get a ban for his stamp, without question, but its hard to feel like a moral victory is obtained by a ban after the game for a stamp he did in the game, then the team, which should have been down to 10 men, went on to win anyway. nor the fact if he gets a 4/5 game ban, he gets a month off, while he sits about making around a million squid, harsh punishment. Do I really think he cares how the team does(bar bonus's) no, do I think he's happy he has his paycheck and thats all that matters, and will keep getting it.

I also think Utd could be the game he doens't score, gets a pounding, loses his form and his fans turn on his lazy ass soon after, but I'm sure that will happen eventually anyway.

The ban for stamping on RvP should stand, thats just not right in the modern game. But a ban for Ade and/or RvP for celebrating their goals, no chance, in a game its a booking so you shouldn't get a 2 match ban for a yellow card offence, absolute nonsense.

Also glad the Eduardo ban got turned over for the same reason, its a booking and no more.

Agreed.

Really not a fan of Adebayor are you? :p

Another sad and bitter gooner :D

Tbh I think it would be a disgrace if he got a ban for celebrating the goal the way that he did, whilst many may disagree I think that the fans as mucanyone else are to blame in the circumstances. Fans think they are immune to any forms of relevant or decent behaviour the second they step through the gates into the ground. Whilst some may already be in this state of mind, the rest think that because they are at a match they can turn into anti-social ********* that can get away with anything they want. No they can't. Ban the **** Gooners for life.

I am not a Man City fan nor am I an Arsenal hater before everyone has a quick read of this thread and then tosses them accusations at me.

Nah, course not.

The thing is, I've yet to hear what the Arsenal fans did AT THAT GAME to wind Ade up beyond the normal chants, I really can't see how if munich, hillsborough, defoe's brother, monkey and all the other chants haven't caused people to try to wind up the fans like that, what exactly his excuse is.

THe thing that is irritating is his story keeps changing, first it was I'm an emotional guy and the things the fans have been writing about me and saying about me, etc, etc. he clearly, i mean so obviously decided he was going to do this before the game. He has no idea if those fans their that day had writen any of what he's read.

I don't care if he gets a ban for that though, but the stamp(s) are a disgrace, but as said a ban now won't change the result of that game, which at the time could easily have led to our pathetically weak midfield not screwing up constantly to concede the later goals.

THe end result here is just another case of the obvious need for in game video use to get the correct calls in game when it matters.

AS it would also have gotten Eduardo a yellow, no penalty, and the game gone on for us to continue spanking Celtic, it would also have in this game had Ade sent off.

The simple fact is introducing video footage asap, will stop 99% of cheating, all forms of cheating, within weeks as quite simply, no one will get away with it.

This is the madness, we have ages spent with ref's trying to sort out order on the pitch, if we have video replay and a 2-3 chances to ask him to check a decision, 30 seconds out of the game, twice a game is hardly going to hurt the "flow". But there will instantly be no need to ever surround the ref, Chelsea players won't do it, it would be needless. People will stop pulling shirts in the penalty box as every time it happened a penalty would be given, within weeks no one would do these things anymore, and we get, football games without controversy.

Martin Samuel? Come on, that man's a sensationalist idiot, everything's an outcry for him!

Sensationalist idiot? His articles are generally well written peices with a reasoned and clear viewpoint, not always one I agree with but certainly well written and certainly not sensationalist.

Nah, course not.

And commenting on me hating Arsenal has nothing to with the point I was making.

Fans think that it is acceptable, generally for the moronic reason that "I paid to get in here" to go and stand on the terraces and hurl disgusting abuse at players for 90 minutes.

How is this acceptable behaviour? Because I tell you what out of all of those fans not one, except for the even more moronic, knuckle dragging thugs that call themselves fans, would walk up to Adebayor in the street and IF the claims are true racially abuse him, call his mother a whore and his father a peadophile. Because they would spend the next month in intensive care and damn well deserve it.

It is despicable behaviour that you would not see going on in any other walk of life, so why the hell should it be acceptable in football stadiums and why should football players be made subject to this sort of abuse? And if you think this is acceptable how about I give you £40 and go threaten and abuse your family and yourself with no threat of any punishment.

Do not get me wrong here, Adebayor deserves a ban for his stamp on RvP and nor were his actions in celebrating his goal in any way, shape or form an acceptable way to behave. It showed a lack of respect to his team mates, his manager and his own fans that he has put his own petty wishes in front of the others in getting one over the Arsenal fans who have abused him so badly. But does he deserve a ban for this? No.

He did not incite a riot, the fans gave it so he gave it back. He didn't swear, he didn't wade into the crowd throwing punches (or ninja kicks like a certain Mr. Cantona whose actions were a million times worse than this) or throw things at them he just took his moment to gloat which he can if he wants. It was the morons standing in the terrace who incited a riot by throwing coins, chairs, bottles and injuring inocent bystanders in the process. But clearly it must be Adebayor's fan that some **** has been brought up so poorly by his **** parents that he sees it as acceptable behaviour to hurl a chair at someones head.

Ban them "fans" for life and similarly ban Adebayor for his own thuggish act in kicking RvP but there is no justifying a ban for his actions during his goal celebration. People need to grow up and realise that football grounds are not no holds barred arenas where anything goes. It is a family environment and even if it was not people should have basic respect for their fellow human beings regardless of that.

I agree wholeheartedly. Enter any football ground these days and all normal human behaviour is suspended for 90 minutes. Why this is so is a complete mystery to me.

Wasn't he given a yellow for his celebration during the game? That being the case, the FA is breaking their own rules that they wont judge a decision unless the referee hasn't seen it in the game? I think Man City should strongly appeal it.

Yes, once the referee has seen it (as he must have) then the FA shouldn't be able to do anything. Of course there have been several instances when the FA have gone against this rule so it won't be he first time!

Of course fans from both clubs should be banned for life if they have been proved to do wrong.
