Hi guys....

I thought i'd ask on here as BT are hopeless at troubleshooting (i wish i could get cable around here :( )

anyway. i'm on 8meg package but can only get 4meg broadband which is fine. However, I've done a few online tests and they come back as 128kbps

the internet is very slow and wondered what could be causing it.

here are the stats from my wireless router (all PCs are connected through cables though)

ADSL Link Downstream / Upstream
Connection Speed 3968 kbps / 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 5.4 db / 22.0 db
Noise Margin 50.5 db / 26.5 db

Not sure whats going on?

Cheers

Gav

Those values look like they're round the wrong way for a start. Not a Netgear DG834G with early firmware perchance?

If you're getting low throughput, first stop should probably be a) a reliable speedtest (eg http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test), and b) the BT Speedtest (FAQ for instructions).

Assuming you use the speedtest login (as opposed to your normal ISP one), you've got a fault. Poke your ISP till they do something, or ask for a MAC and move to an ISP that will.

Quick update.

Spoke to BT and they recon they are upgrading me to BT MAX and therefore the line is be abit funny because they are testing my avg speed etc etc etc

should be up to 3-4 meg once its finished they say

I aint too sure but i'm going to wait and see once its done (5-10 days time)

here are my latest stats

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1696 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.9 db 21.0 db
Noise Margin 50.5 db 26.5 db

I've got the same problem - router reports a connection speed of 8Mb, but speed checkers only show me getting a poor 2Mb connection. Was only activated yesterday (should be 6.5Mb according to the BT website) so will see how it goes over the weekend.

One more thing - is there a problem with the Netgear DG834G and higher connection speeds, as that's what I'm using (v2 though)
