ADSL or Cable?

I’m moving house in a few weeks. I’ve been on Plusnet ADSL for the last four and a half years and despite a dodgy patch a couple of years ago I’m really happy with the service. The new place is just 100m from the exchange and Plusnet let me move the service to a new number for free. Perfect you might think.

Only problem is that the new place doesn’t have a BT line, it’s only ever had Cable. I’m not interested in an analogue line or TV (Freeview is fine) so we’re only talking about broadband. The Virgin Media ‘L’ deal is 4Mb, soon to be upgraded to 10Mb and costs £25 a month. The ADSL service is over £30 when the BT line rental is included.

Is it worth paying the £125 for a new BT line so I can continue with my Plusnet account? I used to use Telewest Blueyonder some 6 years ago and it was great, but I’ve been reading that things have gone downhill a bit since Virgin took over.

Plusnet also look after my domain and the email to that domain is handled by Plusnet’s mail servers. I’d have to find somewhere else to park the domain/email?

Choices:
Buy a BT line and stick with Plusnet.
Sign up to Virgin Media Cable. Cheaper overall, but does the quality stack up?

If I go with Virgin, what do I do with the domain/email?

Anyone know which wireless router Virgin provide (free with ‘L’ )?

I have had cable in the past and moved to adsl for a few years and now back to cable and my pings are nice and low and serice is v quick.
