These are actually from before my time, I think Motors is the best place for them because it was aimed at petrolheads back in the day. When I was a kid my dad used to keep a box up in the loft full of old copies of Hot Rod Magazine. When my folks sold up and went their separate ways I didn't have space to take the magazines so I skimmed through them and scanned all the best bits. The smokes adverts are absolute classics, I almost feel like taking up smoking:

Sex sells, of course. You want some big jiggly boobies to go with those chrome sidepipes sir?

You can't really picture them advertising blank CD's in car mags these days can you:

I'll have a go at getting the articles online but it's difficult to get them readable at a size that will fit on the screen.

Good stuff. I still like the chewin' tobbaca ads they still have in stuff like Popular Mechanics even now. WARNING: may cause mouth cancer.

You still get smoking ads like that in US magazines - think Hot Rod magazine is US based? It's pretty weird to be reading them and come across them.

I vaguely remember an advert from one of my Dad's bongo mags for the Renault 5 GT Turbo (I think)

"What's a guy like you doing in skirts"

"0-60 in about 7 seconds"

Or something like that :D It went on to compare the car to F1 machinery because it had side skirts which the advert seemed to think made it a ground effects weapon :D

lol, I remember the "re-record, not fade away" campaign for Scotch video tapes, although I would guess those were mid eighties at the earliest.
